My 5s is in dire need of a rebuild and I want to be able to do a complete rebuild with some mods, but in the mean time I thought about swapping in a 3s that I found pretty cheap with lower miles than my 5s. Will this swap plug into my trans and will my ecu work with this motor?

You could do a wicked swap with that head on the 5s block, but thats for another thread.

The engine will mount into the bay and trans without a problem. I think you will need the 3s ECU tho.

I know alot of guys here prefer the naturally aspirated 2 liter over the 2.2 but I have alot invested in the suspension of my 90 5s. Its my daily driver and I drive about 200 miles a day working around the state. I'm not looking for alot of horsepower but need low in torque and reliability. It seems like I can find more 3sge motors for sale in reasonable condition than 5s. If I can drop one of these in relatively easy without a bunch of mods, than that will give me time to rebuild my 5s the way I want to.

Thanx Grot but the present 5s head isnt the problem. Rear main seal is leaking like a piece of Swiss cheese. Gotta make sure she is full of oil when I leave everyday, and shes starting to rattle! OH that cant be good

If your looking for power the 5S-GE (http://www.celicatech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17078&page=1&pp=25) is the way to go with those to engines at hand.

Horse Power wise the 3s and the 5s should be similar. The 5s will have more low end torque. And as for reliability they should be the same

Trans yes, ECU no. You'd have better luck with a 3S-FE if it's a temporary thing.
