http://i319.photobucket.com/albums/mm475/djUrbanTarzan/photobucket-1.jpg

sorry for the crappy craigslist pictures, I'll post a photo shoot of both my celis together when I have time. This car has me thinking I want one of every gen celica

The 20r has about 170,000 miles and runs strong!

she needs a new exhuast and has a little quarter rust all around but seems very savable. with no undercarriage rust.

I just want a nice suspension/brake setup and a weber carb n I'll be happy!

til the 1uz swap :naughty: jk

I haven't confirmed but its supposed to be some rare touring model or something.

*edit There's a badge on the interior that says Limeted Edition USGP.

and the stock rims seem really limited edition style. I think they are sweet!

Pretty sweet find. Can't go wrong with RWD! I'm not really a big fan of the liftback 2nd gens.

I wasn't either, until I met this one. I think the quad rectangle lights are way better than the round bubble ones. and the USGP rims work well with the body style.

I also am not a fan.

That one you picked up looks pretty decent though, and for the price you got it for...why not?

bah you guys are just haters :p

Although, I was looking at other 2g lb's and the only one I like is my own LOL. I think the USGP LB is pretty damn cool. I'm stoked on the deal. Especialy after I just played in the dirt with her!

i like 2nd gens cause they are rwd, the body design on the other hand ehhhh

but yes with a carb, cam, and full exaust car will be pretty peppy

My plans are to lower it with stiffer springs and shocks. Poly bushings of course, strurt tower brace, ceramic brake pads, dot 5 fluid, and ss lines. Then like blackman said, carb, cam, and a full sport exhuast. Also weld up a lincoln locker :naughty: , fix the quarter panel rust, and a primer paint job. At which point I just want to rally the piss out of it! did I miss anything?

I used to have a '87 as a beater. Was not a fan of the liftback body style but the reliability was there and for its duty as a beater it worked great.

Love the OP's signature: Championship winning #98 Dan Gurney Turbo Celica RWD IMS GTO Dan Gurney All American Racers. Saw it run and Road America and they kicked arse. While I was in the pits I got Dan's autograph and shook his hand just before the race that day.

thats awesome, that you got to meet him. That celica in my sig is like my favorite celica evar. I love some gt4s too though. I just think celica history kicks ass. I could honestly gladly own one of every gen, if I had room. Heres another pic I can't wait to use in my sig

http://i319.photobucket.com/albums/mm475/djUrbanTarzan/242r.jpg

It's funny, I own a 2g and a 4g. But if I could I would smash them together to spawn a 3rd gen gts. Hah, I guess I'll just have to get a 3rd celica.

If you paint the grille and such black, it makes the front end look like a mid 80's G-Body in a way, like a GNX or something.

You paid $482 for it? That's a random number. Better than $500 I guess!

Looks pretty clean. Too bad it isn't a coupe, but a good deal nonetheless.

We actually have an active second gen owner here now!

I think thats a great steal, good find! Much fun to be had with that car. I would be tempted to do the same in the future, the history of the car is what makes it.

No more turbos or bodykits or whatever, an old gen Celica restored beautifully is magic.

Good deal, keep us updated on your progress!

That generation of celica was a great motorsport tool, decent rally car, and in British Touring car championship,, Chris Hodgetts took class victory in the 1600cc class in 1980 and 81.
In japan, Nobuhide Tachi, took first place at Tsukuba in th 81 Super Silhouette series racing a celica turbo.
The rally cars had 235bhp in 81 / 82, Per Eklund was 2nd in the WRC Portugal round of 82.

Cool car, and good price too.

DAMMIT! I was hoping I was gonna be THE active 2nd gen owner on here! On sat I'm picking up a 1980 GT coupe in Oshkosh. Looks to be in brilliant shape (other than a little rear quarter rust on one side and dents in the airdam).

BTW-Forget blackman, 2nd gens are where it's at. So smooth, so classic, so right :)

I actually have two... A coupe and a LB... trying to sell the coupe... Here are a couple of pictures...

This is the one I'm keeping. It has a weber 38/38 carb. I got the konig wheels from discount tires for $30 each.

Quick question for ya. I'm leaving tonight to pick up my 2nd gen, and my parents are exceptionally worried that everything possible will go wrong. I have a tow dolly, just in case the car won't make it home, and they want me to absolutely confirm that I know how to remove the driveshaft from the diff for towing. I imagine it's just four bolts, then tie the driveshaft up so it doesn't drag.

Seeing as how you also have a 2nd gen, I was wondering if you could confirm that for me ASAP.

Thanks.

Hi street rider, :-) glad I found the site, my ST165, is getting faster as normal, still beating the 5th, 6th and 7th gen Celicas!!

Your plans for the car sound spot on, reckon it will be a great fun project, rust work looks a pain though.

Hobbie ^^ hope you got home okay, and the plan you outlined sounds spot on.

heh, alwayzsidewayz, I have confidence that one day your gt4 will dominate all!

as far as the rust, its a pita, but I'm fairly excited to take it on. Turns out the rust on my usgp is better than what I found buried underneath bondo and filler foam on my st162  sadly my 4th gen has been sentenced to beater status, til I drive the wheels off, and rape her for parts :(

oh well I have something to drive while I badassify my usgp. :bigthumbu
