View Full Version : New Meguiar's products

After getting my car repainted post-vandalism, I've been pretty careful to keep it in good condition. I've invested in a dual-action polisher (courtesy of my swimming career my shoulders aren't up to polishing), pads, microfibre cloths and far too much time reading.

Ended up as a Meguiar's guy, relying on the M-80 (Speed Glaze) for correction work. However, over the years the paint job's picked up a lot of swirls and scratches the M-80 just wasn't getting out. So, decided to pick up something with more bite.

I planned on going with the M-83, but ducked into meguiarsonline.com to read over things, and discovered they'd finally released for 2009 the new abrasives they'd been working on for years.

Aside from the professionals, they also released three consumer products. Ultimate Compound (this is more aggressive than almost all their pro line), a revamped SwirlX, and ScratchX 2.0. The SwirlX and ScratchX are completely new products, I guess they just went with the old names for ease of marketing.

Finally got to spend a weekend with the ScratchX 2.0 and it did a beautiful job. Normally after using an aggressive product you have to follow up with a mild abrasive polish to clear up micro-defects introduced by the first product. The whole push on the new abrasives is that they finish out smooth by themselves.

It did that. No more swirls, and even scratches I could feel are much reduced in appearance, and no follow-up required. I'll post up pics tomorrow, I didn't finish the first wax coat until dusk.

Looking forward to the pictures. :)

I have always been partial to Meguiars lineup. While they are a bit more expensive than some competitors, they definitely deliver.

I also like Black Magic No-Touch Tire Wet for tire-shine.

If you can ever get your hands on some Zainos(?) wax (from Canada) THAT stuff is amazing. Definitely worth it if you have a nice paintjob.

I really rate Meguiars, used their clay and 3 stage paint restore kit, worked wonders on my ST165 after a years hard racing.
found it good value for money, as a little goes a long way.

Meguiars is pretty amazing, I just waxed my car and it is one of the best wax jobs I have done thanks to their "DEEP CRYSTALŽ SYSTEM CARNAUBA WAX" ...it was pretty easy too.

The Gold class paste wax is amazing! Their aerosol tire shine is good stuff as well.

Sorry for the image quality, cell phone with all of 2.0 megapixels (...it was the best cell phone on the market when I bought it, until Casino Royale came out a month later along with its 3.1 MP product placement). I intend to do a better shoot tomorrow after I get on a second coat of NXT.

Front corner (for the reflections):

I usually go for Meguiar's 40 Vinyl and Rubber Cleaner, which leaves the tires looking like new, but was hankering for more shine so I applied the Endurance Tire Gel. Painfully obvious it's a dressing, but it's kind of like a hot pink boa -- tacky, but acceptable in small doses.

careful with the tire shine... that stuff makes break dust cling to your rotors like crazy and can do some damage over time... VERY nice celi though.. love the metalic flake to the red... makes me want to paint my car that color :-P
