I am just wondering if you can stroke the 5sfe? I am going to build me a 5sgte. I was just wondering if you had the 5s crank ground down for 3sgte rods and had it ground offset if possible and then custom pistons? My only concern is my buddy was told on his evo the going with a 2.3 stroker kit on a evo raised the piston speed to hi to be a reliable engine.

I don't know if there is a diffrence in the length of the rods or any other measurements other then the stroke+bore and jornal diameter. So I wouldn't mind be enlightened on what is done building a 5s with 3sgte rods too.

Go check Mr2oc.com Kendal, they do those all day over there and have a wealth of info on the subject. :)

I have a 5S-GTE in my alltrac.

The rods are the same length between 5s and 3s.

5s cylinder bore is 87mm stock compared to 86mm with the 3s.

The 5s crankshaft is what makes the extra displacement. It has more stroke than the 3s crankshaft.

If you want to go beyond using the 5s crank displacement, you have to get offset rod journals ground. You will of course need custom rods made and you will also need a custom deck plate made. You would have to get the cylinders bored with the deck plate on, then have a custom made sleeve pressed in.

i looked at getting a custom crank to stroke my 5s i think i could only stroke it to 94 or 95mm which was not worth the 2gs for the custom crank

Hey thanks Mario been looking at Mr2oc. I helped answer some of my questions. Here is what I have come up with.

Measurements thanks to Mrturrari's post on mr2oc.

5sfe 5.432" stock reconditioned rod. Pauter 5.435". Crower 5.433"
3sgte Eagle 5.428" Pauter 5.435". Crower 5.410"

5sfe rod jornal 2.0472"
3sgte rod jornal 1.8898" So the total offset can be .1574"

So ya custom rods like Vip09 said that would have the length some where around 5.2746". Not a easy slap together idea. I would love to see it done.

Well I went back and looked at the numbers I was wrong when wrote the rod length. Would be 5.3535". When I looked at numbers just for the fun of it with custom length rods offset grind of .157" and .020 oversized pistons. It would give you a 2289cc compared to 2168cc. Not to much more 121cc over stock.
Vip09 is the sleeves beacuse of the extra 4mm to the stroke or is that to run larger pistons?

If you extend the stroke so much that the piston comes out of the block, you will need a deck plate like pictured above to make an extension of the cylinder bore. The sleeves are needed so that you will have a seamless cylinder bore with no space between the block and the deck plate. If you didn't have the sleeves put in, you would have a leak between the deck plate and the block.. and the piston rings would probably catch that groove and destroy themselves.

Ok I see no extra room at the bottom of the original cylinder to stoke the 5s block.
