This seems like an awful good deal to me.... does it raise any flags with anyone else as being too good to be true? Worth grabbing?

Is it worth it even with the high mileage? I'm driving a 5th gen with just under 170,000 right now, but its got some rust and other misc. issues, so I'd like to grab a relatively cheap new Celica that I can drive for a while and take my 5th gen off the road and overhaul it.

I commute several hundred miles a week, so if it is going to wear down being this high of mileage, then it's not a good deal for me. I don't know how reliable the 7th gens are compared to the 5th gens.

7th gens are awesome! you just gotta take care of them like any other car. the ZZ family of engines is a good line

zz's are great... just the compression ratio is so crazy it's almost scary to F/I them...

nothing scary about it. its all in the tune. just be responsible about it. i have built several turboed 7th gens. and then there is mine, but i lowered the compression to support my 27psi boost

I was figuring the misfire was probably something stupid like a fuel filter or something, can't really tell without looking at it. Is there a common expensive reason why it would do that?

Lift bolts are a common problem, but dont know enough about 7th gens to diagnose anything.

im 99% sure the randon misfire is from a broken lift bolt. its a 25cent bolt that dealers now charge 1000 bucks to fix. i do it for 400. its about a 6 hour job. read up on www.newcelica.org all the info you need is there. and dont get scared away from that. 7th Gen GT-S' are AWESOME!

Is there any way to check if that is the problem without tearing the engine apart? I don't want to buy the car and have it end up being something more serious.

Anything else I should look out for if I go check the car out?

I'm not sure how you could tell if the lift bolts were replaced or not. I had mine replaced at the dealership for free, maybe you could get the VIN and ask a Toyota dealership to look up the records? That's the best idea I have.

Just look at it as you would any car... The only "trouble" areas I've ever had with my GT-S are the tensioner pulley and a slight oil leak where the timing chain, the block and the valve cover join together in "T" pattern.

I have 117k miles on my 2ZZ and it's still running strong!
