On the engine itself?

Just the EGR valve.
The CA emissions version has a temp sensor.
Federal emissions doesn't have one.

yep, on the engine.

So will swapping out the intake manifold do the job ?

^^What he said. Also if you were trying to reg the car in CA for whatever reason, emissions standards are different between the two.

Though as I understand most U.S. emissions laws, any state will accept California's more stringent standards.

check the manual....

california emissions adds..

(PG. 6-3, bottom right)

1989 3S-FE engine

adds a Sub-oxygen sensor, and an EGR Gas Temp. sensor

Then turn to page 6-5 top photo.

1990-1991 5S-FE

california emissions adds only a sub oxygen sensor..

Pg. 6-5, bottom.

1992 and later 5S-FE

adds the sub oxygen sensor.

Pg. 6-6

bottom picture depicts a Oxygen sensor, EGR Gas temp sensor on the 4A-FE

and on 6-7 on the top picture.

5S-FE has EGR gas temp sensor and sub oxygen sensor...
