In the summer of 2007 I bought my 1992 celica gt from 92-gt. His dad owned it before him and when I got it it had some damage.

Pics of when I got it:

Repairing the damage on the front of the car.

In the months following I had all the damage repaired and resprayed the car the original grey but added a lot of blue pearl into the clearcoat. It looks great, but I wouldn't do it again since it is basically impossible to match.

Modifications to the body included:
-rc/cs bumper
-jdm corners
-random yellow fogs
-ebay smoked turn signals
-redded out rear turn signals
-deleted side moulding and welded up the holes
-strip all emblems besides toyota logos

Around the same time I got these other aftermarket parts:
-17" MB SevenX wheels with 40 series tires (looked great, but rode awful)
-Vogtland 1.5" lowering springs
-kirkosarus motor mount inserts
-ebay 6th gen header
-fart can

05-05-2009, 06:35 PM
I put mesh grilles in it and that basically finished up the body.

I had painted the engine parts and interior pieces before I painted the car itself and ended up not painting the car the same color as I had already painted the other stuff. Hence the blue trim:

I also did the following tune up/maintenance:
(car had around 168k mi on it at the time)

-timing belt
-water pump
-valve cover gasket
-steering pump
-steering rack (twice, argh, cheap Advance parts)
-all steering lines
-tie rods
-ball joints

At the dragon meet 2008, I ended up cooking the brakes on the way back down the dragon. I had them red hot, smoking, fluid boiling, rotors warped, etc... Upon looking at it later I realized that the front rotors were too small and were not using about .25" of the outside of the pads. Turns out that it had front rotors from a gt convertible on it and they are like .375" smaller diameter or something :wtf: . So I put all new pads/rotors/1 caliper on it and flushed new fluid through the system.

This is my sad post. :(

I got all ambitious and decided that I wanted to get another Saab like I had before the celica and so I sold it back to 92-gt. He repainted alot of the blue trim to gunmetal or back, added strut braces from a neon on the front and from a mx-6 on the rear. ditched the 17" rims and replaced them with 7th gen gt-s rims and kumho ecsta tires. I must say it drives/handles alot better now. He also put a bigger alternator on it and new distrbutor, among many other things.

During this time I owned at least half a dozen cars and couldn't make up my mind what I wanted...

Back to my saab... I put alot of money into it and got it to good running condition with the exception of a small oil leak. Since I thought I was pretty much done with the mechanicals on it I decided to get sell my reliable volvo and get a 3rd gen vert that I had found. This is where my story goes down hill in a hurry.

Leaving my driveway one morning to go to work in the celica and I turn the lights and within seconds the dash harness cooked itself. So now it is sitting in front of my parents house with the dash out waiting for harness repair.

So I start driving the saab. TWO DAYS LATER, I am driving the saab home from school one night and I get on a nice stretch of 4 lane divided highway. there is noone around so I do a 5th gear pull to about 90 and all of a sudden I hear a bang and my rpms peg the fuel cut. I wasn't sure what happened at first, but when I let the clutch back out in fifth gear (still rolling) all I heard was crunchies in the transmission. I managed to limp it home in fourth and parked it in front of my parents house with the 3rd gen.

I found myself without a working car for the first time in a long time. Since I am getting married within 2 months of this and am just buying a house I had pretty much no money and really didn't need that.

I thought it over and the only realistic option was to get a loan for a car since I could make a car payment for less than what it was costing keeping the other 2 cars on the road. I got approved and started my search. That is when Ryan (92-gt) called and said he would sell me the 1992 celica GT back since he got his sixth gen drivable. I quickly agreed and now own the car again.

cliffs of that post:-got bored of celica
-wanted another saab *facepalm*
-sold celica to Ryan
-got saab
-rotated through alot of other cars too
-everything broke (go figure)
-bought celica back from Ryan

Now that that dismal period in my life is behind me, I am done buying and selling cars. I may pick up a few here and there, but not to the extent that I did before. That and money isn't as plentiful as it was. Basically I am going to fix the saab and the 3rd gen and most likely sell them and finish paying off the Celica early. Then I will be looking for a Lexus gs or something similar as a daily and Lydia already has her Infiniti G20 so Hopefully at that point the fleet will be pretty much set.

Annyways. Back to the celica :)

I got it back a week before the 2009 dragon. I tweaked a few things, changed the oil and trans oil and drove it successfully there and back as well as driving it hard on the dragon.

My current short term plans are as follows:
-drop tank and replace leaky gas return line
-A/C condensor and any other related stuff to make the a/c work
-new sunroof seal and fix mirrors so they dont whistle. (I will win this battle!)
-Ansa rear bolt-up muffler
-new resonator and flex pipe
-finish installing my stereo/xm/everything else from Saab
-derattle everything and sound deaden as much as possible

I will keep this thread updated with lots of progress pictures as I go along. :bigthumbu

05-06-2009, 07:01 AM

05-06-2009, 07:05 AM
Just a forewarning to Turner....

If you paint that trim some color again, I will do more than e-slap you.

05-06-2009, 07:15 AM

05-06-2009, 02:33 PM
It will get repainted, but some sort of metal color like silver or gunmetal. Not blue.

05-06-2009, 04:50 PM

05-06-2009, 07:50 PM
Wow nice little story, I really liked your old rims though.

05-06-2009, 07:55 PM
Feel free to give me back my GTS rims... ;)

05-06-2009, 08:19 PM
Wow nice little story, I really liked your old rims though.

When I had it.. I liked the way they looked and everything, but they were CHEAP wheels, and with the gt-s wheels with kumho tires, it handles SO much better.

I sold the old wheels to one of my friends with a cavalier. Within a couple weeks, he had bent and cracked 2 wheels just with a couple of small pot holes.

05-06-2009, 09:03 PM
I like the way the old rims look too, but these to definitely drive tons better. I bent one and had to replace it when I first had the car. They were very uncomfortable to drive on and I was always too worried about bending them. And since this is my only running car right now, I'm fine with the gts rims, besides, they look pretty good. Eventually I will get another set of rims for it, but most likely they will be 16" rotas or something.

05-06-2009, 09:51 PM
The design and color went really well with your car. Good call, function over form is a priority. My car rides on black 14" steelies in the winter.

05-06-2009, 10:00 PM
huh you got the car back? i tought you sold it...and now you have it back again?

or im i talking bull****

05-06-2009, 10:09 PM
Nope, he has it back. lol.

Turner, if you get different rims for it, I am taking the gt-s wheels.

05-06-2009, 10:13 PM
^I will kill you. I need something for slicks.

05-06-2009, 10:19 PM
Neither of you are getting them.

05-06-2009, 10:26 PM
Bullshit. I will take them and you wont be able to do shit. :)

05-07-2009, 12:05 AM
so the car was orginally grey and just added blue pearl to it. why didnt i think of that but mine dark grey or charcoal grey

05-07-2009, 12:46 AM
Bullshit. I will take them and you wont be able to do shit. :)
change your name to 94-st already

05-07-2009, 12:50 AM
so the car was orginally grey and just added blue pearl to it. why didnt i think of that but mine dark grey or charcoal grey

I wouldn't recommend doing it that way. We should have just put the pearl in the color coat instead of the clear. It looks cool, dont get me wrong, but it is going to be impossible to match if needed.

05-07-2009, 12:51 AM
You didn't say anything about me. I'll take the GTS rims, and I'll give Ben my 14s for slicks

05-07-2009, 01:42 AM

Im not changing my name to 94-st.

I might change it, but im not sure to what.

05-07-2009, 01:48 AM

05-07-2009, 04:27 AM

Neither of you are getting them.

That's right......cuz Jason already sold them to me.....fuckers.

05-21-2009, 06:12 PM

I had to remove the tank and make a couple new hard lines above the tank since some of the existing ones had rusted through. It sucked. This weekend I will have to replace the rubber filler hose since it cracked when I was reinstalling it. Oh well, it only leaks when I am filling up now. Gas mileage has improved too since the return line wasnt leaking it out onto the ground. :)

Back on the road!!

Tha tank was cleaned while it was out also.

05-21-2009, 11:31 PM
Never noticed your one piece spoiler... i like it.

05-22-2009, 01:41 PM

05-23-2009, 07:39 AM
So its still leaking after all that work?

05-23-2009, 06:04 PM
no, the return line from the engine was leaking before I fixed it, but after I put the tank back in, the old rubber fuel filler hose between the gas door and the tank cracked and was leaking. I replaced that yesterday so everything should be sealed back up now.

05-23-2009, 07:21 PM
Oh ok, I guess that post was a few days old.

I still can't figure out where that water came from on the SC.

06-12-2009, 07:45 PM
All hell has been breaking loose lately. The steering rack seized up on me so I had to have that replaced again. This time I got the lifetime alignment at firestone which will either make it cheaper to repair anything else later or nothing will go wrong again.

Currently it is back in the shop because the metal brake lines going to the rear wheels rusted through. There is absolutely no rust on the car except the brake lines which were gone. I cant afford much more of this... grrr.

06-12-2009, 08:18 PM
labor of love man. i'm a mechanic for a living and the work you is not all that bad. work yes and paying some to do it sucks.

06-12-2009, 08:43 PM
You took it to a shop???

06-13-2009, 11:11 PM
Have no choice man, All my tools were packed up. I took it to Mast's in town. They are a good shop.

06-14-2009, 04:11 AM
Whatd they charge you?

Did they have to replace all of the hard lines, or just a couple?

06-14-2009, 07:56 PM
Man, that sucks. I made my own hard lines for the rear brakes as mine were also rusted through. Cost me like $20 for the line and fittings.

06-15-2009, 01:46 PM
It should be less than $150 and I got all new lines from the master cyl all the way to the rear calipers. I should be able to pick it up today.

I would definitely have fixed this myself, but I am in the process of moving therefore My tools are packed up and I dont have time right now anyways.

07-14-2009, 03:10 PM
what a nice car i have a 92 also and love it love the mesh in the bumper everything looks clean.

07-20-2009, 10:36 AM
Super sexy, gotta get me an RC bumper, nice work, car looks sweet!!!!

07-20-2009, 12:55 PM
Love the color, love the ducktail spoiler, reminds me of my old car alot ...

5 thumbs up : )

11-02-2009, 05:06 AM

A whole lot of stuff went down all at once a few months ago (wedding, job loss, new jobs, etc...) leaving me with pretty much no time for any working on the cars, forums, and very limited internet access altogether. But things are looking up and I will be able to catch up on all the work that is needed on the cars.

As for the celica, It is basically the same, more miles. I bought the corolla to drive this winter and restore next year (see it's build thread here: http://www.celicatech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44220 ).

The celica is now sitting on a set of 7th gen GT (not GT-S) rims with bridgestone traction t/a tires just in case I have to drive it somewhere during the winter. I picked up the rims and tires and lugnuts up for $70 off craigslist.

My "to do" list before the dragon is as follows:

-new functional power antenna
-install gt-s gauge cluster (160mph speedo with volt meter) (have)
-white face indiglo faces
-new fuel filter (have)
-fix exhaust leaks
-possibly new headunit?
-reinstall 7th gen GT-S wheels in spring
-convt to dot 4 brake fluid
-I'm sure there will end up being more

I'll get some more pics up here before too long.

11-05-2009, 09:30 PM
Nice car, I was looking at your pictures of the gas tank removal I need to pull mine out also...

11-06-2009, 04:21 AM
It was a pain, plan on most of a day if you are doing it yourself without a lift.

11-06-2009, 05:38 AM
-white face indiglo faces

if you do do these, get this style:

not the ones where the whole face lights up... trust me.

11-06-2009, 07:53 AM
where did you get those gauages?

11-06-2009, 06:55 PM
^ X2, where did you get them?

11-06-2009, 07:30 PM
Here are the wheels and tires I got for winter...

I also picked up a set of vert sideskirts and mudflaps at a junk yard the other day. Here is a quick test fit.

The only problem is that with the sideskirts on, I think it needs a front and maybe even a back lip too. O, well I have until I repaint the car to figure it out.

Here is a pic of it just sittin in my yard:

11-06-2009, 10:40 PM
lookin good, i like the sideskirt...it gives a nice touch

01-10-2010, 06:03 AM
Just a couple night pics from a few months ago...

This is the status of the Celica and the corolla right now. The Celica needs a heater core and some exhaust work that will get finished before the dragon meet. But I fixed the transmission in my Saab, so I am driving that for now since it has heat.

I am going to be starting on the next Celica project within a few weeks. It will involve changing the heater core, refinishing the carpet, dynamat, gts gauge cluster among other things. And hopefully I'll get the new exhaust done before the dragon meet too.

04-23-2010, 09:15 AM
Lol, you said to do so if you ever sold it again.

04-23-2010, 05:43 PM
where did you get those gauages?
ebay they are AutoZ

^ X2, where did you get them?
