I went to the local autocross event over the weekend and i thought you guys might want to see some pictures. There was about 60 cars there and i have never had so much fun driving my car. I have a video of my run that i will post up in a couple days

Sorry bout the crappy video it was off a digital camera strapped to my seat. The first half of the video was in car view second is out of car view.

Why are you wrote in as DSP?

toyotaguy90
04-28-2009, 12:04 AM
That's a darn good question that's what they classified me as when the tech guys looked at it i quickly went and had it changed to novice since i had never done it before. They said i would be in dsp because i have coilovers which i don't think is neccassarily fair. seeing as i'm running street tires and a stock engine.

No, you should run in FSP or maybe STX.

toyotaguy90
04-28-2009, 01:34 AM
yeah i dunno i'm not up on all the new lingo just yet. What is the difference between those two? I know the class i was in was wrong though because i was put in the same group as that red evo you see in the pics which is turboed and is about 2x more powerful than my car. I wouldn't say my car is stock but its not highly modified either, i have an air intake, some exhaust work, lighter wheels, z rated tires, coilovers and brembo rotors. Thats all i have performance wise that i can think of at the moment

Hiko

So long as you haven't touched the catalytic converter with the exhaust mods, that list of mods is ST class. If you've moved the cat, then it belongs in STX.

Looks like it was fun! I demand a video.

Looks good man! I'm gonna have to get into this at the next auto x. I wonder where a stock 3sgte swap with lowering springs and street tires would fall under lol.

Street mod.

FSP is for race tires. STX is for street tires. Go to www.scca.org and download the rules.

Clean car :bigthumbu

Same deal for me with the helmet hitting the roof, one of the drawbacks of having a sunroof is less headroom.

toyotaguy90
04-28-2009, 07:20 PM
Yeah i finally decided to pop it a bit and it seemed to help, i was wearing my motorcycle helmet which has little air vent things on the top so if i get more into it i will get a open face automotive helmet.

How did your megan's do? I am probably getting some this summer and have considered possibly trying out autocross every once in a while. Did they perform pretty well and what setting do you have them on for street vs. track use?

That looks like so much fun. I am a shitty driver who can't even heel toe tho, so I'm kinda nervous. lol.

heel toe is for pussies lol i dont either.

toyotaguy90
05-06-2009, 06:54 AM
sorry i un-privatized the video. The megan's are amazing i had them set on about 5 for the autox which is really stiff maybe almost too stiff. I didn't set the camber at all which thinking back i probably should have but somebody told me that it would cause my tires to toe out... Does anyone know if it does? Anyways on the street i drive with them at about 25 which is very bareable and they ride way better than my blown out struts ever did. I would Highly recommend these coilovers to everyone.

Celica's with sunroofs have no room for people and helmets. I always have to put my head sideways out he sunroof when wearing a helmet. One reason I was considering loosing the sunroof.

I'm short and I wear a harness... don't think the headroom is going to be an issue.

Would adjusting the camber change the toe?

You drive a 5th gen. Good luck heel-toeing, even if you can do it anyways. :p

Is the manual backwards on these? The higher the number, the stiffer they're supposed to be...

No, I know the pedals aren't the right height. You'd have to bend them or get aftermarket pedals or something. I wasn't serious about learning how to heel-toe. At least not yet anyways. I don't have the luxury of putting the stress of autoxing on my only car right now.

its my only car, its pretty hard to destroy your car autocrossing : )

Would adjusting the camber change the toe?

Yes, definitely. If I remember increase negative camber on the celica causes toe out (as the rack bolts behind and below the hub).

Speaking of heel-toeing.......does anyone know of a good brand of aftermarket pedals I can swap into my 4th Gens?

toyotaguy90
05-15-2009, 07:31 PM
Ok so is that bad? because what is the points of having adjustable camber plates if its gonna have an adverse effect if i adjust it.

No, you set your camber and adjust the toe. There is an EPIC amount of toe adjustment as it's done through your steering rack.

KoreanJoey
05-16-2009, 06:09 AM
PS: You should just set it and forget it. OR. Find how much it changes the toe and find how many turns it takes to correct for it.

*Ex: 1* of camber causes .25* of toe, to correct is 2.5 turns*

So you can just adjust to and fro when you switch from one position to the other.

BUT; if you're a performance oriented driver, once you have camber you'll never go back.

toyotaguy90
05-16-2009, 07:33 PM
Yeah so how would i know how many turns to do? I have heard running camber will work miracles but i mostly dd this car so i don't wanna chew my neogens up any faster than i have to. I have never messed with the toe before so i don't really know how it works completely, should i have a shop help me out?

cms-gt4
05-16-2009, 09:21 PM
Anyone have access to an alignment rack? I would love to see how much toe I could correct when adding camber. I'd likely drive it around on 1-1.5 degree but switch to 2-2.5 for autox/ course driving.

I'm sure our cars have very similar pedal placement. How well were you able to place the throttle next to the brake? Were they even?

KoreanJoey

No, not even BUT I added some 1/4" double sided sticky hard foam and that got it close.

Um... it'll never be the same for every steering rack...

Well never mind then. I need to figure out my own setting so I can swap between preferred settings when I want.
