View Full Version : What color should I paint my car??

04-17-2009, 06:49 AM
So I am planning on painting my 6th gen this summer. I cant really decide on a color for it. I have a few ideas, but I cant make my mind up about it.

Here are the colors...

-Midnight blue metallic

-metallic platinum silver

-Metallic black

-Royal blue metallic

-Saphire blue pearl

-Gunmetal silver metallic

-Flat black

While we can take a general guess at the shades, it'd help if we could see what you identify as those colours (and yes, they'll be slightly different depending on your computer, but a properly calibrated system is reasonably close).

Black. Duh. (extremely biased opinion)

I say Midnight Blue... get some suttle colour on it to show off the lines a bit..

Updated first post with pictures of the colors.

out of those options I would say metalic black.

but I LOVE satin black, not quite flat black but not super shiney either :D

For that "sleeper look" lol. I was thinking about just spraying it flat black until I decide on a color....

I agree, but I think it would suck on a 6g. Why not do a two tone: Midnight blue w/black metallic roof.

Im not a big fan of a two tone... I dont know, I have always liked a nice single color done well...

imo the midnight blue metallic would look different and lots of wooooooooooo

Midnight blue metallic for me as well. Royal blue was a close second. If you like to constantly clean your car, metallic black would be good, but black requires a SHIT LOAD of maintenance unless you have her garaged constantly and don't drive around trees that much.

^I love the way black cars look when kept clean, but I do a lot of driving, and a lot of country driving for work.

Plus, with black, your body work has to be PERFECT for it to look good.

Then definitely go with the blue or silver. I love the look of clean black cars as well, but like you, I don't drive in clean environments so my car ends up lookin like shit constantly. That's why back in your thread about cleaning months ago I said I just wait till summer. lol.

Definitely avoid black. You won't regret it. If you were driving in clean environments and it was garaged, I would definitely say go for it, but unfortunately that's not the case.

FYI, I definitely regret painting my car black. Not because I don't like the color, just cause its impossible to keep clean.

A pearl or metallic helps hide inconsistencies, but I'd push the sapphire blue pearl. It'll be a finer variation than a metallic, which makes it look a little higher class without losing the visual pop. And, assuming it's a lighter shade than the midnight blue, won't be as likely to turn muddy under flat light (e.g. overcast sky).

The Pontiac Sunfire had that very dark blue metallic in the last couple of years of production, and I found the colour was nice in sunlight but went ugly under clouds.

The royal blue's a much more common metallic; think Civic Si, Lancer, half the Subarus, Focus, etc.

Wow galcobar, thanks for the input man. That helped out a lot!!!

Midnight blue metallic as i love that color. Be sure not to cut corners and paint the door jams!

04-18-2009, 04:51 PM
Yeah, I like it a lot too... :)

Sponge paint that bitch.

04-18-2009, 05:07 PM
LOLZ.... yeah, I will do that when you paint your entire car, engine, interior, and exterior hot pink.

where is the option for "leave it the fug alone"?

04-23-2009, 04:04 AM
Its not an option, it needs a paint job BAD. There is no primer under the black, and it is chipping. Thank you Maaco.

saffire blue pearl, cause i want a 6th gen or a 5th gen in royal saffire pearl

I really like the rsp. I just dont know how expensive it would be to buy the paint....

I changed my mind, the royal sapphire pearl is too purplish looking. I would go with the 5th gen celica Medium Blue Pearl (8G7). I think that's the color my gts has, but not 100% sure, im too tired to go outside and check right now.
Check out the lisc plate on the Baltic Blue Metallic supra (752), GOTMILF, lol.

I kinda like the magnet gray metallic on the Venza..

And the blue ribbon metallic on the new camry...

Steel mist gray on the sw20..

And flint mica on the tc..

And last, but not least, intense blue pearl on the is300.
