will the 3sgte clutch fit a 5sfe by any chance?

If you mean like the whole clutch assembly, no.

No.

Are you planning a swap? If so and you plan on using the factory GTS tranny, companies like ATS (in our vendor section ;)) make custom clutches to meet your needs.

No im not planning the swap. i just found an awesome deal on a clutch and light weight flywheel for the 3sgte, and thought i would ask.

but i know your pretty knowledgeable shadow.... so can you answer me these questions.

Q: How much PSI can a stock 5s handle from a turbo safely?

Q: How much PSI does the CT26 put out?

Q: Is the CT-26 air/ oil or just oil cooled? T3/T4?

i have more wquestions but ill ask later if needed, thankyou guys. :bigthumbu

oh and:

Q: Is a 5th injector ok to do or should i just go with the 460cc RX_7 injectors?

A stock 5s, if you are looking to boost it? I would have to refer you to Lagos. He is the resident king of the boosted 5s ;)

The factory CT26 turbo on a 2nd rev 3SGTE is commonly good for up to 12psi most all day long. With things like Water Injection there are those who have seen 270whp on a factory CT26 and an "unopened" motor. Usually at around 16psi.

The CT26 is oil cooled.

T3/T4 turbines vary greatly in their design. Your personal power goals will determine what is best to use.

The Rx-7 injectors seem to work very well for that application. You would also need an injector controller if you wanted to do an additional one.

Anything else, feel free to ask. Our search on this site is actually really kick ass, so do use it. There's a wealth of knowledge here man. :)

ya i know there is a shit load of well put together info here. i had another name i used for like 2 years but i fried my old computer and cant remember any of the info. no big deal.

here is the deal. i have 2000 dollars to play with.

i found a cheap t3/t4 with a boost controller (tho i wont need the controller yet) for $200. i plan on using the megasquirt piggyback system for getting around the ecu, i need the gauges and pod, bypass valve, wastegate and oil lines. oh oh oh.....

Q: since your a big help already, where can i get an exhaust manifold that will bolt up to whichever turbo and my 5s head?
::::: or will the 3s head fit on my 5s?:::::

Sounds lie you are talking about a stroker setup if you want to do the 5s block with a 3sgte head. Lot's of info on that over on MR2OC.

To tell you the truth though, if it was me, I'd use that money to get a 3SGTE swap done.

Figure $1,200.-1,600. for the engine/tranny/ecu/wiring harness package.
That still leaves you $400.-800. for goodies like a boost controller/Downpipe/Midpipe/gauges(a MUST)/Water Injection/Intercooler/IC Piping

So bang for the buck and overall potential, the 3SGTE swap is the better of the 2 options.

It is heavily documented here and we'd be able to breeze you through it.

I got to ride in Sloceli's swapped GTS. Tell you what, that thing is a MONSTER.

Something to think about. :)

hmmmm im heavily considering that. with this swap what kind of power did he end up with? and was he just using the ct26 turbo or did he swap that out too.

oh and how much is a good ct20b worth? used of course

Shadowlife25

He was running about 280whp.

His setup:
CT20b turbo
27"x7"x2,5" Intercooler with associate piping and couplers (E-Bay. Yes really)
Apex-i AVCR Boost Controller
3SGTE
3SGTE ECU
Stock GTS Transmission with custom flywheel/clutch setup (3s fly 5s clutch. This can be had from ATS for a decent price)
Water Injection kit.
WB AFR gauge
30psi Boost gauge
(only thing I'm not sure of is if he is using 550cc injectors from a gen3)

That's it. ;)

$500. $550 tops. It doesn't matter what they tell you, they are ALL used and have no guarantee as such.

ok wow holy shit. that would put the car in what the 13's on a track? depending... but ok the 3sgte came with the ct20b or another turbo?

it should have a ct 26 in it.

the 20b is an upgrade

5sfte is definitley not a budget project from what I've read, so a swap would net you some money to play around with for mods. Ct-20b is very good for a streetable 3s with a nice balance between spool and power. ATS are selling some right now. I had a problem with them, but they remedied that and I feel confident in saying that they stand behind what they sell. Any more than the 20b, and you will be upping the lag a little bit unless you do significant VE changes.

ok ya i have been doing some reading and doing a striahgt 5sfte would be a lil more costly. but i was on mr2oc and they want $2000-$2500 for a 3sgte. sorry i want one for a lil less.

agh and i have read that the ct20 is hard to find parts for if needed, how hard?

Shadowlife25
03-31-2009, 07:51 AM
You couldn't use the 3s out of the MR2 anyhow. Too many things are *just* a bit different physically.

Get one from an AllTrac. It's almost plug-n-play. ;)

hmmm damn. i found a 3sgte for a $1000 on mr2oc. but i didnt know they were different. shit. this is gonna be a lil harder. finding one of those where i live or even online is gonna suck.

what about the ones on ebay? a 2nd gen 3s-gte (200hp) with wires,trans,ecu,ect... sells for around 1400 shipped or get a 3rd gen (255hp i think) for $2000 shipped. when i get the extra cash im going to really consider buying a 3rd gen 3s-gte. what do you think of those engines shadowlife25?

You don't really need parts for a turbo unless you have the skills to rebuild it. ATS would have everything you need, or would at least be able to get it.

i never did think of looking for one on ebay. im used to looking up stuff for my 5sfe and rarely do i find something i could actually use. hmmm ill go take a look see....... :bigthumbu

The Gen3 motors are sweet. I will give 'em that. :) They are still way pricey compared to a gen2, but it all balances out.

hey guys what is the difference between the 2? other then the 55hp? what adds the 55hp?

i found one with the awd 5 speed and driveline minus the rear dif for about 1650 with shipping. i think it looks pretty good.

The only bad thing about them is that they are very hard to get parts for. Other than that they are sexay!!!! Main huge differences IMO are MAP sensor (no more crappy AFM), excellent WTA intercooler, and the ct20b turbo. The major thing besides the hp difference is the enormous room to grow.

The only real disadvantage is that it might take a lot of time and effort to find certain parts.

For example, on this board v8killer needs a third gen headgasket and I think he has had a little trouble finding one.
