Who's done it?

How does it look?

Pics?

How did you do it?

I might want to do it, was wondering if anyone has done it to their Celi's though

Well, I'll see if I have any. The car is with the lady right now.

The stuff I used is called VHT Night Shades.
I applied 2 coats. Not too dark, just enough for me.
Light passes through well and I have never been harassed for them.

I would do a couple things differently if I were to do it again though.
This time, instead of masking off the car I would remove the lights and do them separately.
I would also use a clear coat over the stuff once I had the finish I was after.
Mine has started to slowly come off after the various times the car has been washed over the last couple years.

Ahh, I see. See, I was thinking about doing this on the 6th gen. I just didnt know if it would be too much black....

Followed directions on the can, three coats of VHT, two of clear, has faded a little in the year and half.

Did it with the lights off the car, and masked off the reverse light, for contrast.

92-93 rear tails are kinda "blacked" out. Just an option

But only on the edges, not the entire lamp assembly. Good call though. :)

^yeah. Well i never liked lights being entirely blacked out, so 92-93 would be a viable option for me.

For the record, I used 92-93 tails, simply because I'm not fond of the 90/91 tails, they remind me of a Caprice Classic... which if I wanted one, I would have gotten one...

hey, i got a 90....I actually like the 90-91 tails unlike almost everyone else here it seems like. But i do appreciate the 92-93's also, and im trying to find some right now because im thinking of swapping.

I have 90-91 tails. I have no issues with them since they are tinted now. :)
I think they look nice.

You also have a hatch, coupes got a poopy light design for 90/91.

Yeah, did the same thing on my old GT when I blacked the lights. Put a piece of clear packing tape over reverse light then went around it with a razor, worked perfect. I liked it better than solid black.

Masked them off, masked off the reverse light and tinted all of them (corners, bumpers and rears.)

I used several light coats until I got them where I wanted them.

I did this several years ago and they have faded over time. I would clear them if I were to do them again.

I also like the 90-91 lights more, even the coupe lights. I didn't like the black outline.

Once tinted, they looked great.

Sorry for the size.

Say what you want, I still think she looked bad-ass back then.

I like to make sure those pictures make an appearance every year or so. ;)

It's so funny to me. Remember the first time we talked I told you about my first Celica ST?

Aside from the graphics, it was identical. Parkbench and all. ;) I liked her too.

I really like the look of this alteration, where do you get the stuff to do this? I would love to do this to my car because I have the hatch and those lights look exactly like mine except mine aren't blacked out.

Wow, anus hurt much guys? He asked where, not what.

You can find it at www.summitracing.com and on ebay, and I'm sure many other places. It's pretty common stuff.

No, but I'm tired of spoon feeding people that are too lazy to read and do a Google search.

I've tried searching on google and couldn't find anything which is why I asked if there were any stores that carried it. I had just asked a question pertaining to the VHT.

Alright guys. Keep it on topic.

Naemion, I havn't seen it in stores and so its been easier to just purchase it online. Simple Google Search (http://www.google.com/products?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=1G1GGLQ_ENUS322&q=vht+nightshades&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=I2bSSbqvGJ38tgOy-aDIAw&sa=X&oi=product_result_group&resnum=1&ct=title)

Yeah I had found all that, but don't have any way of paying for it online. I don't use banks because I don't trust them.

Not sure what you have around, but you can check out at Pep Boys/Advanced Auto/O'Reillys/Nappa. You'll just have to call around to various automotoive suppliers because the Pep Boys here doesnt always carry the same products as the one in South Bend, IN. So you'll just have to check.

I was planning on doing that later this week. I really love the look of this mod and was thinking about doing this to my fog lights also. I think that would look pretty good also.

I havent seen it in stores much. I am pretty sure that the guys at Carquest here in Bremen can order it for you, but that is only because they sell aftermarket stuff like stereos, bolt-ons, etc.

METDeath
03-31-2009, 10:19 PM
My local O'reillys ordered it for me, not a bad price. I think it was actually under what it would have been shipped.

Naemion
03-31-2009, 10:29 PM
I just stopped at NAPA and they said they can order it for about $10. That's what I have found to be the most common price on teh interwebz.
