Wow, impressive list so far. This is going to be awesome! :)

Take a look at my signature. That's a picture of the Vernon meet in 2007. That was our entire contingent of Celicas that year, so I think we're going to represent well.

I'll add you guys up. :)

Ryan - was it Alyth auto you had your body work done at? The one you went to did an awesome job, was a smaller shop and was very reasonable. I think it was Alyth...

Remind me what form I sent you? haha

As Chris mentioned, I got my car repaired at Alyth Autobody last August. I was hit in the rear quarterpanel and they did an amazing job. Pay them in cash and you'll get a great deal like I did. Here's a few before and after pics:

Before:

http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d99/oilerfan05/IMG_0948.jpg
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d99/oilerfan05/IMG_2149.jpg

After:

http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d99/oilerfan05/IMG_2180.jpg
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d99/oilerfan05/IMG_2179.jpg

It only took them a little over a week to complete, too. The guys there are just awesome - when they started the job and were removing the side molding, they revealed a ridiculous amount of rust, so they fixed that for me too (for free).

It's a small place just off Blackfoot. Only a few employees, but they do things the old fashioned way and actually know how to bend metal as opposed to the scrapping-and-replacing mentality the new, bigger shops employ these days. lol

Do you take a different way to work now? I seen you at the lights on Rutland by Mac's the other morning.

Sinyk

I started taking McCurdy to the highway to work in the morning lately because the traffic seems a bit more reasonable in the winter, but then I take a chance with all the highway lights... I don't think it's any faster though and I'll probably go back to going over sexsmith/dilworth soon.

So after passing each other for months on end, come august we will actually be able to meet up!

I agree on Washington not being all that far away. My wife and I just spent our first anniversary in Seattle last week, and it really didn't take all that long to get there in the Echo...and that thing has half as much HP and no turbo! :)

So excited I can't decide if I really want to get some ss-iii splitters or not before then. I haven't seen a car in Kelowna with splitters yet, but at the same time, I think my bumper could use a repaint.

SS-iii splitters (also called extensions or spats). They are meant for the 96+ facelift 6th gen bumper, but also can fit the pre-face with some work:

Hello all,

I followed the link from Classic-Celica that a2ndopinion posted, thanks for the invite! I'm pretty sure my RA21 will be done in time, although it won't have the "real" engine ready so the other one is going back in. The car is a shell right now with extensive suspension and brake mods almost done, but we are going like hell to get her done by the end of June. Barring anything catastrophic (My fingers are crossed). I know of a couple of other folks with first gen Celicas in Calgary but I don't think they will take their cars on the highway. I also have some friends in Washington that I might be able to convince to try and make it. Are non-Celicas welcome? One of them owns a first gen Corolla (Peanut) with a 2TG.

Of course even with the car done I have to convince my fiance to either go, or not care if I go alone. This looks like it will be a blast and I would hate to miss it.

On another note I didn't know there were so many All Trac, and other Celica lovers in town. I see the odd one on the road that I ogle and annoy people with me by pointing them out and blabbering. Maybe I will see you guys and gals around once The Beast is on the road.

hehe, I'd say the same about 1st gens...I've heard of a few here and there, but they are such a rare sight to see! A 1st gen is one car I'd definitely love to make a project out of.

Give the others a shout, you never know! :)

Non celicas are certainly welcome, however they just might not get into all of the photo shoots. We'll likely have some celica only ones. But anyone who appreciates the cars, no matter what they drive, is certainly welcome to come out.

btw - if you know any of the mods/admins at classic-celica, can you pm them to get my account activated? Something is wrong with their user registration and it won't let me in. My username is the same.

btw2 - if it'll help with the fiance, mention we're doing lunch at Quail's Gate winery on the saturday... :D (stay tuned, there will be limited availability for this)

Hi Chris,

I haven't spotted a first gen in so long I can't remember the last time I saw one. Other than my friends '70 that we restored, and another guys gorgeous blue '77, that's about it. Oh, and the freak show out in the garage I see every day. I have an affectionate name for the car, but I don't know how politically correct this board is yet and I don't want to get banned on my second post.

Thanks for the open invite, I will pass it on to the Washington guys and see if any of them can make the drive up.

I PM'ed the admin at 1stGen so hopefully I will get some info back on your account issues.

I'm buttering my significant other up, and he seems like he might be interested in going. The winery sounds very nice, neither one of us drink (oh joy) but the restaurant looks very appealing. In any case, what could be better than going on a fun cruise out to the Okanagan and checking out some sweet vehicles at the shows?

I'll keep working on the car, and working on the subtle hints. "Almost married" life sucks sometimes, you can't just do what you want anymore. :D

ChrisD
05-11-2009, 03:18 PM
err....we're pretty loose and easy going round here...as long as you dont post pictures of child porn you should be ok. :D

It will def be a good time, sig other will enjoy too I guaruntee...maybe get them interested in why exactly you have that "freak show" going on in your garage anyways. :bigthumbu

OldSchoolToys
05-11-2009, 07:26 PM
When you mentioned child porn it brought a whole bunch of pedobear joke images to mind. :ug: Bad, but funny. In a "I'm going to hell for laughing at that" sort of way. I've been on mostly "family friendly" boards so I have to be sure and not be offensive most of the time. It's almost impossible to offend me, so I need to be careful.

My guy is actually part of the devious Celica build, he is a journeyman welder/fabricator so he is building/modifying a lot of the parts I need. I do all the "non-technical" work. Which boils down to grunt work, and wrenching. He just isn't very sociable but he does know I want to be active in the car community.

Anyway I don't mean to derail this thread, I need to go post something of value.

It turns out I may have a softball tournament to play in in Armstrong on the same weekend (8th and 9th only). I'm not 100% sure that my team is even going to make it as we have had a few members who have said no already, so it may not be an issue. In other words, I may end up coming to the event covered in grass stains reeking of tiger balm :P

SchweizerCeli
05-20-2009, 05:19 PM
Since your softball team is wavering, you should cancel on them and come hang with us. The way to do this is to place your order for a shirt and get in on the Quail's Gate lunch. Then you have better plans to tell your softball team.

Exhaust Fumes > Tiger Balm

... personal opinion of course.

Sinyk
05-20-2009, 05:21 PM
Well, I may have to cancel (the above mentioned tournament) as there's a tournament the weekend before that in Revelstoke! My liver will need a week to recover after that.

Should a local really take a seat away from someone who is coming in from out of town though??

We've entered a contest from the site that we'll be ordering the shirts from. If the group wins, we'll get $100 off our next order. So please visit this link and rate our photo! Also, leave a comment if you'd like.

Quail's gate lunch will be on Saturday Aug 8th. It's half full so if you need a spot (or two) sign up on the other sticky and send your funds to ChrisD.

Will be at the Vernon downtown show and shine and then at a local pub (Kelly O'Bryans) on the 7th in the evening.

Itinerary will be confirmed soon..

thats a good point. On Saturday night, we are planning a BBQ, which will be free to everyone who comes thanks to Zen Autoworks. At this BBQ (on the beach!), we can have a 'parts swap'...so everyone should definitely bring in their parts!

I think I'll post up a tentative itinerary this weekend sometime. There's a couple blanks to fill in yet, but it's definitely enough for people to check out now.

T-Spoon, don't worry. My car is in desperate need of paint. I have way to many rock chips and the car got hit by a hail storm in Calgary a few years ago. Unfortunately, it will not see paint this summer. I will just clean it up as best I can.

Sadly I'm gonna wimp out. Money is too tight and I'm not sure how the car would do (other than knowing it will burn way too much gas). Also work would be an issue. I think I'll never make it to an event that isn't within 30 miles. :thumbsdow

http://www.castanet.net/content/1247519688age.jpg

Kelowna Hydrofest cancelled

Jul 13, 2009 / 4:16 pm

Plans have been derailed to bring the ABRA Unlimited Hydroplanes and POPRA Off Shore power boats back to Kelowna, August 8 and 9.

Several factors have attributed to this situation. A lack of corporate sponsorship and a significant amount of costs to facilitate an event of this nature made it impossible to continue under the current conditions.

"We are very disappointed not to be able to bring the races back to Kelowna," says Jorum Schramm, President and CEO, Leverage S&E. It is an extremely tough decision to call off the races this close to the event, but at this time we have no choice.

Kelowna Hydrofest was set to take place in Waterfront Park and would have played host to The Unlimited Hydroplanes, Unlimited Light Hydroplanes, Off Shore Series boats but with the economic environment in the condition it is and companies not in a position to place the kind of financial support behind the event its future was placed in doubt.

"There has been a significant amount of planning and work put into these races from both the race associations and ourselves, sadly fans across BC wont be able to enjoy them," says Schramm.

Awesome pics guys! I had a great time. I took 200+ pics, will do my best to get them online later tonight.

Jon - LOL. Too bad you got sidelined for yesterday. At least the car did well while we cruised around the okanagan. :)

Was great to meet everyone!

Dang, all the pictures are good!

As we did with the Dragon meet, there is a COTM submissions month just for pics from this west coast event. (http://www.celicatech.com/forums/showthread.php?p=30039291)

Hey guys - just a note, I'm going to get all attendees a custom user icon for attending, just like we do with Dragon.

Haha, oh yeah. ~15-20 Celicas all in the same turning lane. It was pretty awesome.

Hey Chris, if you wanna see those "cop confrontation" photos, you'll have to break down and join Facebook...haha. Chalan has a few photos from that as well as all thsoe ones that you saw that Sony point and shoot hanging out of the car.

Oh, for those of you on Flickr, please add your pics to the 2009 Run Of The Ogopogo group I made. Sean and I have already added ours (to put them all in one place).

See, that's what I want to see at the dragon next year. Fourth gens that don't have peeling paint and flapping fenders. :hehe:

Actually I'd settle for simply not being the only one. Maybe I'll just go to Canada next year. :D

Maybe i will have mine running bay the dragon next year. then we will be 2 of a kind.

I will hopefully have it running early spring next year.

So why did the cops show up? Did someone get pulled over or were they concerned it was going to turn all fast & furious in the park?

ChrisD

lol - nope, pics not that important to me. just say no to facebook. :D

A local resident went haywire on us b/c some of the cars were a bit loud, a BOV went off on a little residential road. He called in to the police and would not discuss with us. The local said people were racing and such, which we definitely were not. Cops came by to chat, had no issues at all with us being at the beach for the BBQ, and wished us a nice day. :)

Oops, I brought em.

Felt like such a dummy, but hey, it's not a party unless the cops are there too right?

I have a few good shots - just got back into Calgary from the coast, so I should be able to throw up some photos soonish. I have a couple of amusing cop photos too...

The meet was a blast. Ryan and I will definitely be out again next year, hopefully with my Celica too!

I've got a newfound respect for those newer Celica alltracs... I hadn't had much exposure, and am now contemplating the pros and cons of RHD.
