But seriously,

What would this wire normally connect to? Is the aftermarket ground wire to the battery a clue here?

What does this little sliding knob do? it's certainly not a choke...

Why won't my glove box open, I see a small metal peice in there that seems to be holding it back.

I can't make heads or tails of your first pics. Larger pics would help.

The second, it seems to be a vent of some kind. I am gonna say it has something to do with your HVAC. It is not factory. Your factory heating is probably FUBAR and this is a way to divert it to somewhere. The only way to know is to trace it.

Your last pic. That is not your glovebox, that is your ashtray. The metal you see is probably the stay. Then again, after seeing your pull knob for the heating, there could be some serious ghetto rigging going on there keeping it closed.

I hate to say it, but you are gonna be chasing gremlins for a while with this car to get it working 100% as intended.

Good luck.

Yeah, it looks like there is definantly some ghetto engineering at work in the car.

The first pic is the bundle of wires coming off the alt, there is one wire that has been cut, but I can't see where it would normally go.

I think pic #2 shows the connector clip that goes into the alternator.

Beyond that I don't know....I have never seen a 4th Gen with the jury rigged knob thingy.

I'll help this guy out since nobody else sees it. (I have no idea what it connects to)

The main thing is that, as seen with eatdirt40's generous help, you can see where all the wire hook up. So I have no idea why that one is cut, and where it would normally go.

I bet the pull cable controls your heater flapper door. It's pretty common on 4th gens to have the HVAC controls stop working to toggle heat. I have to reach under the console there and push or pull the arm to select between heat and cool on my alltrac. That pull cable might be a rig to do that. If that's what it is, the way to actually fix it properly usually involves pulling the HVAC control unit out of the dash and fixing the bad contacts. Or.. the actuator itself might be kaput.

The cut wire... well not certain, but that plug is obviously to the alternator so it should be easy enough to figure out with a wiring diagram.

I'm almost positive that your mystery wire is related to the AC compressor. I'm 99% sure that it is the sender wire to your AC compressor clutch. It is missing a single wire connector at the frayed end which connects to a length of single wire (obviously) that snakes its way to right behind the compressor pulley. Basically....it is the sucker that zaps your power every time you hit the AC switch on the console.

When I first saw that knob I thought it was for a manual exhaust cutout haha...

Hah, exaust cutout would be nice, but considering that I broke the exaust in two on a back road today, I don't really need one.

I actually think it is for the heater as T-spoon speculated.

Well, at least all the ghetto rigging seems to be working for the moment.

No feedback on my theory?

Don't worry Redrkt01, I'll be checking out your theory as well, It will just be a might harder to track down then the other one.

Like I said......I'm almost certain. I hope it works out for you.

T-spoon is correct.. I have the same issue with mine and am thinking about using that exact fix to fix it!

Yeah mystery wire has to be one of the following:

A/C
O2
Rad sensor
Alternator

I can see the rad and alt connectors, so that leaves a/c and o2...

Chris, on mine the o2 is a quad wire.
