Hey guys, as many of you know there are a number of swaps that you can do to the celica. Theres the most common one the 3S-GTE swap, but there is also the 4A-GZE, and the 20V 4A-GE Blacktop/Silvertop. So my question is what do you guys think about the different motors.

I think you should read the Stickies in the forced induction forum.

Dude, i try to hold my tounge because i dont know you and its not my place, but come on. Give it a fucking rest and quit being a god damn dick. and give someone some help for once.

All i ever see you do is bitch about this or whine about that.

I want to get an old RWD Celica and swap a 2.7 3RZ from a Tacoma. I am building one right now for a swap in a '94 Toyota 4x4 and the more I learn about these engines the more I think they are one of the best NA Toyota 4 bangers to build, period. Guys are even putting them in RX7s...

I'm doing only a couple cheap tricks in my build and the motor should make an honest 175 very usable horses at the crank...

If you spend a little money they say 325 to 350 is easy NA...

Whoa there i have read the stickies in the forced induction, but that doesnt answer the question i asked. I would like to know what people prefer and why. I wasnt asking for tips about doing the swaps.

That would be so badass in the '85 GT-S... or even in that pickup you just got! :burn:

the majority of people swap to a 3sgte because it's an easy swap in terms of fitment because they bolt up to the engine mounts (depending on what chassis you have) and the fact that there is a fair amount of aftermarket support. also because the 3sgte has a lot of potential. but so does any swap with the right amount of money... i think thats why 3sgte's are the preferred swap though.

I think a 20v swap into an 5th gen ST would be awesome. I may do one someday.
3SGTE swap is pretty common now and has a very well documented upgrade path. Good aftermarket support and easy power with just a boost controller...
A couple v6 (3vz and 1mz) swaps have been done successfully and are sparsely documented.
There has been that "famous" Lexus V8 swap done, but NO documentation.

what i would like to do is, swap in a 2zzge from the 7th gen into and st184 chasis and swap it over to 6 speed. how bout that? from my judgement, i think the motor mounts on the 2zz and "s" series engine seems to be in the same place. They might be a little off but, little modifications would be needed to seat the engine. i wounder what type of power am i looking at?

It's probably not worth the trouble but there is a 7th gen out there with 3sgte.

Yea i was planning on doing a 3S swap, until i found the 20v, since i have an ST it will bolt right in. So during the summer, im going to get a clip and do the swap. The blacktop stock pushes 160-165 hp, and the ST only weights about 2500 lbs and with some weight reduction intake, exhaust, and some cams and stuff i believe it will haul.

The ZZ engine is closer to an A engine, so your mounts wouldn't line up. You would end up doing the opposite of a 3S swap into an ST. For the 2zz into an A series body, only the passenger side mounting bracket has to be modified.

Since you have an ST, you can do a 20V, 4A-GZE, or 2ZZ-GE. The 20V/4A-GZE are more common swaps, the 2ZZ-GE is a little rare... upside to the 2ZZ-GE is that you can get pretty good NA power out of it, plus you'll smoke emissions with it (if required).

Ha, i dont have to worry about emissions anymore, one reason why I chose an older car. I like not having to worry about not passing emissions. Then i can do a full exhaust with just a res and no worrying about cats.

So yeah, do yourself a nice little 20V build up (ITB, increase compression, better fuel and a stand alone EMS, call it a day, maybe add some spray for giggles.

Lol, yea i was looking at a little NOS, but im not totally sure about that yet. So im just going to work on the swap, and then ill see about the spray. Im going to try and pick up a Blacktop within the next month or two, that way i can get it all fixed up and ready to swap in when spring/summer comes around.

Well, if you build it and tune it right, and compression isn't over 14:1 or something like that, spray is still an option, particularly if you have tuning for it.

since hondas can use the K-series motors into early 90's hondas... i dont see why toyota couldnt... just need a shop to work with custom mounts to use a ZZ block.

maybe a 2ZZ into a AE82?

AE82 = FWD or RWD?

If no one's made mounts for an S into an A chassis, then I doubt they will make ZZ mounts into an S chassis

I could find a v6 donor car in an hour, I don't know how long it would tak me to find a suitable 3sgte donor and it is only going to get harder over time. So I think we will be seing alot more v6 swaps, and possibly 3sge+t's.

As far as the the rwd celicas... A 1uzfe is my fantasy.

if enough demand like the honda community, it can happen.
