on your 92, you should have a timing belt. and its not too hard, just not alot of room to work.

If you're going to replace the timing belt, it's probably a good idea to replace the water pump at the same time. Just to be sure.

A timing chain will last for a long time.

A timing belt won't.

If we are talking about his `92 Celica GT Convertible with a 5SFE, it has a timing belt.

It should be replaced every 70-100k.

yep and they arent that hard, they require removal of an engine mount, harmonic ballancer, and I think you need to move the PS resevoir (not in that order). the hardest part really is the harmonic ballancer.
