I always wanted this when I had an Rx-7 and I now dream of one on my Celica. I seriously want someone to make these for our 5th gens. :wiggle:

I am referring to the rear hatch replacement btw.

I would rather engineer myself a neuce to hang myself on.

I think the word you are looking for is "noose".

Mario's picture is certainly one way to make an All-trac unique, but I wouldn't do it to any other trim level, because there's the coupe... well, maybe GTS... but you can convert a GT into a GTS inside 98% of the way anyway...

^^ Yes I typed it like 5x and kept getting the incorrect spelling!!

Dan, you fail so hard that fail isn't a strong enough term to describe it.

Now, GTFO of my thread. :p

They have them for the 3rd Generation F-Body, they were standard on one year of teh Firebird for a certain trim.

They were more hassle than they were worth IMO.

I think it would be a nice option at least. Maybe not for everyday, but for summer at least it would be pretty sweet. :D

Wouldn't it be cool to have a drop in "shell" so you could remove the rear hatch then just have it hatchless? Would kinda be like the Del Sol or kinda like the El Camino.. Off with the hatch, drop in a filler.. could either be flush with the highest point of the rear of the hatch or could be like a bed like a truck..

I'm sure one of you could fab something up (:

^^ That's pretty much what it is. ;)

I just wish my fiberglassing skills were up to snuff. If they were, I'd attempt it myself.

In japan there was a drop in insert that made the back of the celica like a truck. The hatch was still there but it was like a bed liner so the interior was level and you could more easily carry stuff w/o wrecking the interior.

When I had my mx-3, someone did something very similar to what acidice posted. It was very unique.

I think it is a cool idea mario. I wouldnt do it personally, but it would give it a totally new look and would be cool.

If I can find it. It was a catalog option in japan. I want one myself.

I found one of the links. I think the truck liner was for the 165.

This is a link worth saving BTW.

This is a tray that I want for the 185.

Damn, I wondered what that was. 2nd page, 2nd item down is an auto-dimmer for headlight brights. Always wanted one of those. I wish this damn thing had pn#'s with it.

Some of that stuff is so badass.

I mean, its all just unnecessary, but is very JDM Tyte y0!

So has anyone done this yet?

this is tempting. i will have to do some design sketches first. I got a source already for a rusty old catch i can obtain cheaply as a frame to start with, then mutilate it :P

Here is one for the 350z. My only concern is turbulence created at higher speeds.

That one looks pretty sweet, but your field of vision in your rear view mirror must go to shit.

cms-gt4
03-25-2009, 02:57 AM
The view in the rear already sucks, so it can't be much worse. A lot of the 350z owners install rear view cameras to compensate.
