What 5spd transmission is best with the 5sfe, and will work straight up in my 4th gen.

Reason I ask is kuz the tranny in there now grinds 2nd and 4th.

This summer ill be switching to the 5sfe, and i remember reading that one of the trannys out there had longer top gears.

anyone know which one it was?

s54 is the one your looking for i believe, the 5sfe SHOULD come stock mated with the s53 and a popular upgrade is the s54, for the longer gears i think

S54 actually is slightly shorter gears, it's just tougher than the S53, thus the popularity of it with swaps, and speed demons alike.

If you want higher mileage, go with a S53... Although with an ST, you might want to look into the 20V Blacktop swap or a 4A-GZE swap instead of a 5S-FE swap

4th Gen STs are the odd man out. Here in the US they weren't equipped with 'A' series engines, but rather a 2S-E pre 87, 3S-FE post '87 just like the GT.

what he said... lol

5sfe = 3fse with more displacement.... direct swap = easy.

so what year and models does the s54 come out of?

I dont know if you know this, but This car is just my winter beater....

I drive a Firebird Formula for my summer car.... so a swapping a 3s into it wouldnt be my first choice..... id rather spend my money on the firebird....

but a 5s swap and tranny will be easy and more economical....

You want a Rev 1 5SFE, you will have to rewire for a `92+ engine.
