Hells yes.. we had our first SCCA event this season today as well.

I'm tired.

The lay out was easily the most technical I have ever seen. There had to be 35 turns at least. So much slalom I want to puke.

A number of good clean runs, but my fastest I ate a cone, I was sooo pissed lol. I was about 6 seconds off my buddies R-compound shod Focus. The course being so tight just hurt a lot though, loads of power but in FWD it was completely worthless lol. Very hard course, a lot of places to lose major time so I was pretty happy being 10 seconds off the ultimate pace. There was a single 42 ran and a few 44 second runs. My best was 54.125, I think my last run I screwed up would have been a 52, oh well. For how difficult our season opener was, it was a fun day :bigthumbu

I'll have some pics shortly I'm sure.

4 seconds is a lot...

I hate you guys though, my race tires didn't even get up to temp...

And unfortunately no videos because the weather was so cold the camera kept turning off.

On board with a guy that was in a Levin..

As you see once you get near the end, the final chicane was WAY too tight. Loads of time to be lost there an I had no intention of breaking anything so I only stayed as competitive as I wanted to be.

I think the rule books say like 1 OC's per every 20, well.. its was more like 15 for 20 lol.

Had our first practice event of the year on Sunday. One of the guys tagged some of us with a camera and made a video.

It's on facebook

http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/video/video.php?v=1097156821631

Notice the tire roll, I kept the pressures low because of the low temps (Ground temp was 40degrees) but didn't have time to pump them back up due to the fast cycling from the small run group.

AND look at the door gap, hence why I need a cage.

Damn man, that looks like it would be a blast. I really want to try it sometime at tire rack...

Wowa.. ya, what is up with all the flex? The door gap makes it pretty easy to see.

i know the cage is the better brace for flex but just wondering, i read aarons thread about the floor bar brace. but is that floor brace supposidly meant for the area of flex that you have kj?

I really doubt it would, if that bar does work, which I don't believe it does, it would slow axial flex. From the video, it looks like his car is getting a lot of lateral flex.

Stiff spring rates + sticky tires + 5 years of autocross/track days/time trials = chassis pwned.

Well.. just a few from todays AutoX.. we had a good course this time! I wasn't able to improve much. 59.9, 59.6, 59.3, 59.1 & 59.024

Some of my buddies Focus that runs on R compounds.

Can't complain, it was mainly an all 2nd gear except one area with 1st gear (nooooo traction) but overall a fairly quick course. I'm fairly please, a lot of Civics, S2000's, BMW's STi's etc were all in my time range al be it me still off a second on some. The obviously fast ones were SCCA champions we have in town, so those are a given. Pleased none the less as its just for fun. So thats it for my Spring AutoX events, next.. the Dragon!

We just had our last AutoX, this is the 4th of the season and my last on until this fall.

They do run through the summer here in FL, but I just don't care to. Too damn hot!

I'll pick back up come August and finish out the season with 3 more. We'll use Whitehouse and then a track circuit at Roebling Road.

This past weekend was a track circuit at Gainesville. This is our most local true track, still some cones but its not a full auto-x course.

I ran a 66.08 and the fastest in my SM class was a 65.9 something. SOOO close to 1st.

My buddy in FSP with R compounds is usually my mark, many of us know him here RICK!! He ran a 65, so I am very pleased with 66.0 this past weekend on street tires. I was also the good drive of the run, no off courses and not a single cone!! W00t!

Anyway, enjoy the pics:

Awesome... but SM cars shouldn't be aiming for FSP cars... that's backwards.

Awesome... but SM cars shouldn't be aiming for FSP cars... that's backwards.

Obviously. But considering my class is retardedly overclassed for me, which you know, and the platform, Rick on R-compounds is actually a great comparison.

True dat.

Trance4c
05-19-2009, 12:44 AM
Ya, due to that really.. I am never there for competition. The only times I care about is just trying to give Rick a run for his money. Suspension wise he is very superior. He has more experience, and the compounds are better. So thats my fun factor really.

KoreanJoey

So, you know what you've gotta do.

Build your suspension, get more drivetime and get some awesome tires...

Ya.. I need a lot of things, but not for this car buddy. Its just fun, I'm not spending loads more on this car. I'm trying to get as much entertainment out of it for the buck these days.

Suspension though will get an overhaul, I have all new stuff in the garage. Just haven't gotten around to it.

I'll get some pics of round 2 up when i have them myself, back to a proper dedicated twisty sprint track.

but just a one off- bloody enjoyed it tho :)

Did they just happen to get approval for it? We really wait every weekend on the Friday for approval from the Navy in Jax.

I wish they would make some circuits more accessible. My parents are near Road Atlanta, but it has been hard to get anyone that is interested in letting individual owners go out on track. Either everything is 100% overkill and a full on track day with loads of money (probably how it would have to ever go) or you just run cones.

More track days would be nice, anything I'd give to have a road like Nurburg or so.
