does anybody know how strong is the rav4 awd tranny.

Well I've looked at the newer Rav/Highlander center diffs and the gear has a large diameter but very little thickness to it. I wouldn't trust it to hold too much torque.

as long as is as stong as alltrac it'll be fine.

why are you looking into this? From what everyone on alltrac.net says it is not the most reliable... if this is for a cost standard for a st185 tranny vs a rav4 tranny alltrac....... I couldnt give my st185 tranny away!!!!

it's for a v6 swap so unless miracle happenes and my alltrac tranny fits the engine i'll need something else.

I cannto say for 100% but that same transmission is the same bellhousign that will fit on a S series block, also I have seen 5vz swaps in mr2s so it would be a bell housign that would work with vz blocks from what I assume not 100%.... but just use the st185 tranny.

I think the problem isn't the trans but the center diff itself. And the Rav4 diff does appear smaller. But with the size you compromise strength. Sometimes it's just a matter of using the options you've got.
