Yeah dont buy those ebay ones they are nothing but crap from what i hear. I ordered the Hella E-code headlights off of amazon.com for $90.00 and they are great they convert your sealed housings to h4 style housings so you can put any kind of bulb you want in it. they have a very nice beam with a pretty clean cut off on them, i dont have h.i.d.'s yet i have the sylvania silverstars but i can imagine if you put some quality h.i.d. bulbs in them they would be great.

haha I actually have a set of those "projector" headlights from when a friend gave them to me when I bought my hood and HID's. I can tell you they are pure crap, they dont even have an actually projector lense. They have a bubbled piece of glass and its not even sealed in, it allows light to go out to the whole housin, and obviously you want the light focused through that lense. I never tried them, but my friend said they were pure crap and could barely see with them in

Well if the buy it now price is $2.00 there is no way they can be good. I got mine on amazon im sure there are other places to get them too.

Hella makes a decent one as well. However, if you really want to get a cheap ebay housing, get a "diamond cut" one, and slap your HIDs in that. It'll blind other drivers but it will work.

www.roundeyes.com

my brother has them on his 1985 toyota pick-up and they look really good. same size as 5th gen celicas.
I'll probably pick a set up in the spring.

H4 is a halogen-filled bulb with a tungsten filament -- there is no such thing as an H4 HID.

To convert to HID requires a housing designed for an xenon arc-discharge bulb, which is nigh impossible to find in a reflector design (the reflector design housing is what is used in fifth-gen Celicas). The only effective, safe conversions I've ever seen involved strapping a HID projector module to a frame which fits the Celica's headlight supports.

The easiest way to improve the function of your headlight system is to upgrade your housings. This means H4 housings with an ECE lens. The European-spec lens produces a sharp cutoff and much more efficient light distribution; E-code lenses put the light on the road, as opposed to directing half of it up into the air as DOT lenses do.

Autopal's the cheapest option, Bosch is a good alternative; Hella's just as good as Bosch for quality but has a history of too much separation between high and low beam positions, while Cibie is the best quality and highest price.

Pair these with a set of high efficiency (+30%) H4 bulbs such as the Philips Premium or Osram (not Sylvania) Super, and you'll really see a difference. A bigger difference can be found with Osram (again, NOT Sylvania) Silverstar or Philips VisionPlus bulbs, which are ultra-high efficiency, but the bulb life is markedly shorter.

Hmmm...can't find the thread where Slider posted up the pics of the results for headlight modifications.

you are correct with the above statement.
i guess i should have worded it differently.
i was looking for a set of headlights that take the H4 "style" bulb.

that they do make a HID kit for.

it doesnt bother me too much if i have projector housings but would like them without too much effort.
having the diamond style with HID's would be fun. especially if i get low/high and fogs in HID. :thefinger

but thank you i will check out autopal's and have already looked at the round eyes.

How about these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/200mm-H6054-H4-DOT-EURO-CONVERSION-HEADLIGHTS-KIT_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742Q2em153Q2el1262 QQcategoryZ33710QQihZ013QQitemZ230186287608QQtcZph oto#ht_2699wt_1197

Those are DOT, they're inefficient at getting the light on the road. The DOT lighting laws are pretty outdated in the US. DOT ones require to some of the light to be thrown upwards to light up over head highway signs. So you're getting less light on the road. The E-Code lights have a sharp cutoff and throw more light down on the road and angle up to the right at the edge to light up the road signs on the side of the road.

Buy some E-Code headlights, throw in some bulbs in them. If you still need more light get a wiring harness or build your own they're pretty simple just need a relay or two, fuse and some wires. If you do that you can throw in some higher wattage bulbs and outperform those crappy ebay HID kits.
