the battery need to be disconnected before the air bag module capacitors lose their reserve? Isn't it a half hour? Just wanting to double check because I may be replacing my steering column soon.

Disconnect your ecu and your battery and it shouldn't be an issue.

give it 2 hours to be safe. high voltage hurts like a motherfucker.

actually, high voltage isnt the issue, its causing the air bag to deploy, they take a VERY small about of voltage. If they pop when you dont want them to, you dont want to be in the way lol

When I went to the Elkhart Area Careers Center(Vocational school) for Auto Tech, and I was in the 2nd year of the program, one of the last days in class, we actually set off about 10 air bags that our instructor had laying around. Those things are so loud, and it is scary to think of one of them going off in your face.

We also set a plastic bottle on top of one and set it off. It dented a steel door.
