Hey all,

Any recommendations on a good chemical paint stripper? Painting my engine bay...

Or other suggested methods besides sanding it down all the way..

thanks!

If you want it to last you should clean the bay and sand it down. The paint won't adhere properly if u don't. U can go ahead and paint without sanding if you like, but don't expect it to last long.

Would sandblasting be a good idea?

I think sandblasting would strip too much of the surface away. Atleats that's what I think. The reason why sanding with a higher grit is so that the surface will have more pores for the paint to adhere to the engine bay.

You can use aircraft paint stripper, or you could probably media blast with walnut shell.

aircraft stripper is the best, but be careful with it it will take any paint/adhesive off right down to bare metal. crown makes a good stripper: Tuff Strip is a gel type that you can brush on.

yeah, i used aircraft stripper and a 3M paint stripper disk. Works wonders...

That aircraft stripper stuff is STRONG,,,,wear gloves/eye protection/respirator!
