View Full Version : If you didn't get a Celica, which car would you get?

DblOSmith

Just a contingency plan in case my Celica explodes. I think my next car will be four door, and I don't think I could ever go without hatchback versatility. Nothing beats being able to fit a full bicycle in my celica and being able to close the hatch without adjusting my seat.

...but I'm thinking... I always liked the Mazda 6 hatch, having driven in snow, I'd love to have a WRX hatch or an outback. Mazda 3 hatch might be nice too.

What about you guys? If you could choose another car, what would it be?

Saabs/Volvos are great in the snow and both have turbo options and lots of cargo space.

Volvo would be better for a DD though because they tend to be less of a maintenance whore.

I'd pick a 240SX, or Mazda3, or a Protoge5, an MR2 would be fun (but you'd have to leave your bike behind), an Accord wagon is an excellent drive, particularly once you've dona an H22a swap...

If it's really gotta be a 4 door then I'd rather walk or get a divorce but I possibly could be persuaded to buy some sort of heavily modified Volvo v70R turbo wagon or a 3 series BMW. Audi TT's are getting cheap now and I've always liked the way they look & drive when they are working, but likely if I stuck with 2 doors, I'd buy a Mini Cooper. In fact that might be exactly what I do when I sell the Celica.

Amen, people just do not know until they drive one.

Try a MK1 sometime. My first MR2 was my Turbo MK2 and I bought my MK1 to use as a daily a few years after the MK2 purchase. Now with the suspension mods and the black top I would say its almost more fun then the MK2. The only thing not making it my absolute favorite is that it doesn't have a 3S-GTE in it pushing 22.6psi of booooost.

That's all for now. Can't wait til the GF is done with her progam and making some damn good money. Of course I need to go back and get a post-bacc degree too.

MR2's are a pain, and suck if you are impatient like I am.

I have owned two Celicas.

My 90 GT was sold to get a better car that was in better shape. I now have a 92 Lexus SC300.

I parted out my 72 Celica because it was way too rusty to fix. Bought a 96 Volvo 850 Turbo to replace it for now.

I enjoy Celicas and love them, but I'm just exploring what else is out there for a while.

I think MR2s are pretty easy to work on once you get past the WTF factor. The only things that suck are the ALT if you dont know how to get it out and the HFH.

Toyota 4 Runner in either a 2nd gen 22re manual trans or a 3rd gen with the 3RZ manual. Also very partial to a mid 90s FZJ80 lancruiser with the factory locking diffs but they might be a little large and usually don't come as cheap as 4 Runners.

But the coolest 4 Door in my opinion would be a 4 door Hi-Lux imported from over seas with right hand drive and the turbo-deisel!

They're a nightmare. Nissan makes stuff complicated just because it can.

Yeah, so i've heard. Never had the opportunity to work on one. But the car is so sexy. I just fell in love with it the moment I saw it.

Assuming I stay in Cali which would probably be the case, I am stuck with the vg30, but if I wasn't in Cali or any other tough emissions state, I probably would swap in a rb26. I heard they are so much easier to work on and can be done without too much hassle.

Assuming I build it up right tho, I shouldn't have to work on it that much. :)

But this is all in the future after I get out of school and is subject to change. Who knows, I may find something else that I would prefer more. But for now, the z is what I have my eyes set on.

If money wasn't an option? A Lotus. Hands down.

I was looking at several different cars before I bought the 'yota, though.

1990-1994 Corvette
1996-2000 Camaro
1990-1994 240SX or 300ZX
Any Jeep Wrangler or Cherokee, NOT a Grand Cherokee though. Grand Cherokees are fail bait.

I briefly considered a Firebird but then I remembered Pontiac is worse than Nissan at making things difficult just for the sake of being difficult (1995 Grand Am, like 3 different timing cover designs FOR THE SAME ENGINE in one year? are you kidding me?)

I really didn't consider any import other than a Nissan until I saw the 'yota on CraigsList.
