View Full Version : Dipstick tube.. help!

I have a 5S block from a '94 Camry. The dipstick tube is really long and I would like to use a shorter one like the one from my 3SGTE.

What's the easiest way to get this out and replace it? I tried to get it out but it wouldn't budge.

It is amazingly, just a rubber gasket. Pull, you will get it out, and you can replace it, there are part numbers for it at the dealership. Then, press back in.

I had the vice grips on it and it wouldn't even move.. the tube started to crush.

Yep, it is a serious bitch. I couldn't stress that more. lol

I thought there was one bolt down the bottom that helps hold it in place?

No bolt unless it's a ninja bolt.

Usually there is a bracket that is welded onto the tube, and the bracket extends down and bolts to the block... Thats what I have seen on most cars.

The bracket just keeps it in place and keeps it from flopping around.

Other than that, it is just an o-ring...

I got moved to general? It's a 5S-GTE! ;)

Actually, there is a small sleeve, its like a nipple that the tube sits in. This sleeve is pressed into the block. The tube is just in that sleeve with a rubber gasket, I shit you not. Nothing more to it.

On a stock alltrac 3SGTE the dipstick tube is the sleeve. On an MR2, theres a "union" that presses into the block, then theres an Oring and the dipstick tube slides into the union.

I have the stock Alltrac dipstick from my engine when I swapped to my MR2 stuff.

It just slides down into the block itself. The tube itself is 1 piece. I can take a picture for you if you want.

And yes, to get mine out, I used vice grips and twisted and pulled.

Yeah, I knew about the differences in the MR2 tube. I'm going to order all the MR2 hardware and install that.

i told you so.... or something like that

Youre saying the camry stick is even longer than the MR2 stuff?

Cause the MR2 stuff is WAY longer than the celica stuff dude.
