View Full Version : She's Home!!

I finally got the MR2 home today! What a day...we had a little hassle with the bank and some other random problems come up so by the time we got the car home it was pretty late. But she's home!

It was a pretty scary drive home. It snowed heavily overnight (NOT expected) and the roads were icy and snowy, and the car's got Z rated tires all around on 17" rims. Luckily, I only slid once when I downshifted because I forgot that can cause you to lose traction as well. Driving it home was big deal because we took it about 60kms.

The car ran fantastically the whole time, warmed up really quickly today.

Here are the pictures. I apologise about quality...it's night, snowing, and my BlackBerry doesn't take great pics apparently.

Yup buddy of mine at work is going to do it for me while I'm working. Unfortunately can't park her anywhere dry tonight it'll have to wait...I'm gonna stick a heater in it all day tomorrow and during the night to dry up the moisture, and hopefully be able to use my landlord's garage.

Congrats! You'll love the car.

More pictures.

The first ones are of the ugly exhaust tips coming off. The stock ones underneath were black so I polished them up.
Pics were taken in the shop at work and the last few on a side street randomly. The roads are all pretty much clear and dry now, just a couple side streets are packed snow but the car is driving fine everywhere.

Please ignore the snow and dirt :). Haven't been able to wash it yet, especially since there hasn't been much point with the weather.

Hey thats my car ;)
You should have held out a little longer and bought a GT4 from one of the guys here (and in Victoria). Timmy or Timmey or however his username goes has it up forsale (http://victoria.en.craigslist.ca/cto/963633791.html)

JDM taillights...nah I like the ones I have. The JDM look great and all, but to me it's a waste of money when these look fine. I don't have a lot of money to spend so I'm gonna save it for the engine.

Thanks for the link to the GT-Four haha but it is/was quite out of my price range. :)

What JDM tails are you all talking about anyway? The US/north american 94-95 tails look great, are you meaning those?

I'm sure they are referring to those. The only difference between the revised JDM tail lights and the revised USDM tail lights (94-95) are the amber corners on the JDM while they were red for the USDM. I'd have to say that this upgrade is one of the best monies I've spent on my MR2. A close second is upgrading the steering wheel to the late 90s early 00s Toyota three spoke steering wheel found in the Supra, MR2 Spyder, Celica, Corolla S, Rav4, Matrix, etc.

I'm just a good driver is all :).

It has snow tires now and it's fantastic in the snow. I don't have the option to garage it. I don't have the $$ for another car, plus I'd rather drive this than my fiance's 07 Mustang GT. I'd love to garage it, believe me, I feel terrible every time I see all that slush stuck to the wheel wells and paint. I cannot WAIT to get it clean, I don't want rust.

very nice ride! have you had it undercoated since you'll be driving all winter i assume?

supra97
12-23-2008, 07:11 AM
I haven't no. I've had the car all of five days now. I haven't even had the chance to get it up to better look underneath. Sad as that sounds...I have just been too busy but now I have three days off so hopefully I can do that. It probably already has undercoating, I suspect because it looked that way from when I looked at it originally. It was sort of dark out though and hard to tell.

If not, can you DIY undercoat for relatively cheap?

Even if you could, I wouldn't recommend it since I'm assuming you don't know what you're doing.

As for driving the car in the winter, it's perfectly fine if you wash the car every week. Using the car during the winter is probably less of an issue if Canadian roads aren't salted like Wisconsin roads. In terms of safety, the MR2 actually performs quite well during the winter due to the weight over the drive wheels. I don't have any experience myself (my MR2 is in storage during the winters months), but simple physics says the MR2 should be better especially in accelerating from a stop than FWD cars. Tire selection will have the greatest impact on how a car drivers on snow and ice, especially for stopping and turning. Many MR2 owners daily drive the MR2 year round and have no issues. As long as you don't drive like an ass, you'll be fine. Definitely look out for mid-corner throttle-lift oversteer though.

supra97

Definitely look out for mid-corner throttle-lift oversteer though.

I've read all about it on the mr2oc.com forums, and I'm very respectful with the car around corners. I am practicing not taking my foot off the throttle even at low speeds so I get in the habit of doing so.

The roads up here are liquid salted, they spray it on before it snows. They do regular salt too but not nearly as much as they used to.

Here's some final pictures. I think this thread is long enough especially considering it's a CELICA forum haha....so I took a few more of her in the shop at work and one of myself sitting in it. That's hard to do, getting me AND the car in the shot with only an arm's length to shoot from! I don't have anybody around when I take pics of my car it seems so this will have to do. It's not a great pic, sorry, back to work today and didn't have time to shower this morning :(.
