View Full Version : What oil do YOU recommend?

Ok well... I'm not having a huge trouble with the 0-w30 german castrol, but i can't tell because my car has a exhaust problem...

I used royal purple previously, my only problem is there advertising is misleading. This article that has been posted here http://www.animegame.com/cars/Oil%20Tests.pdf Royal purple uses the same test in THERE advertising.

Here is a link to the video of the same test in there advertisement http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqvhRi7-iMA

I'm not saying royal purple is horrible, i just find there pushy advertisement misleading. I'm just wondering what oil everyone here would put in there car without thinking twice about it.

I use mobile one, whatever the lightest weight they sell.
I like it a lot, it pours much more easily then normal oil, and it lasts a lot longer.

until I get a swap done, I'm using 10W30 Castrol GTX high mileage. considering my car has about 300 xxx km on it..... which is about 188 xxx miles since I know most of you are in the states :hehe:

I'm using 5w-30 Mobil1 in the Cobalt. Figure it's good enough to survive the 10,000mi oil change intervals specified and is easy to find and cheaper than Royal Purple of Amsoil. I know Amsoil claims to have a 1 year interval (which for me is 20-25k mi) but I don't want my car's maintenance log book to say "oil change at 25,000; oil change at 50,000" when I go to sell it or trade it in.

Castrol GTX 5w-30 or 10w-30 depending on my mood.

Castrol Synthetic 5w-30...or what ever synthetic is cheapest.

In the Miata I use GC 0w-30, M1 0w-40 is good too.

For the Celica I use Castrol GTX 10w-40, my car has 20x,xxx miles on it.

Based off of that PDF, I'm switching back to Durablend for the Celica and Camry. The rebuilt Talon is only going to see Royal Purple products from now on.

I have used anything from castrol syntec, mobile 1, Royal Purple, and Q horsepower. I usually just use the Q HP most of the time because it is like $20 for a 5 quarts at wal-mart, and I try and use genuine toyota filters...

I really like royal purple products.. I even used there diff. fluid when i changed it in the Infiniti..

Running RP 10w30. I can hear a difference from when I used mobil1. Car does run smoother with the Royal Purple without a doubt.

Royal Purple Here.

I had an oil analysis done on my engine with RP. Came back great, with tonnes of life left after 6500 km according to the TBN.

So to sum up:

RP Motor oil 5W30
RP Tranny Oil 75W90
RP Power Steering Fluid

Motul 5.1 Brake Fluid and Clutch

Max life or castrol high milage.
For my beams I will use either rp or castrol syntec if I ever get it

I heard royal purple oil eats your oil seals anybody ever heard of that ??

12-10-2008, 04:59 AM
It does NOT. Synthetic oils contain conditioners which usually remove deposits. If your seals go, they were on their way out to start.

I use Mobil1 Full Synthetic 10w30. Its $23 for 5qts at Wal Mart.

I have in the past used nothing but RP or RedLine. They are comparable to each other. RP does perform better than Mobil1, but the $8 per quart for RP price is too high for my current financial situation.
