Is anyone else experiencing withdrawl symptoms?

Late January seems soooo far away.

I've taken to sliding around on the snow to stop the jonesing. E-brake 360's ftw!

Bandimere won't open 'til at least late April... :( May is more likely, but they haven't set the '09 schedule yet. I missed like the last two months of this year, too.

I'm not feeling the withdrawl symptoms, but I am really excited since next year is going to be my first year getting started into circuit/road course racing. Since the celica is parked for the winter, I am saving up to get a few parts for it and then hopefully start attending a few track days and stuff in 2009!!!

They're fine in rain. Way better than RT615s.

The snow isn't THAT bad.... slush and ice sucks balls, though.

I'm having a little withdrawal but I just keep thinking of how awesome it's going to be when I put some sticky tires on and do some suspension work. Right now it's resting in the garage on some crappy touring kumhos and blown shocks. BTW it's not too good for the summer tire compound to heat cycle in the cold like that, it hardens it from what I've read. Don't be surprised if they're not as grippy as they used to be when it warms up.

But yeah, i know... i'm just too cheap to buy winter tires when i would use them for all of.. 2 months and never touch them again for the rest of my life.

Are you still rockin the miata for autox next year?

Im making some minor improvements to the alltrac for next year. New turbo, poly/spherical bushings in the rear, new rims and tires (went from the 16" gts wheels to 15" team dynamics but getting another set of Rs2's), and going to try a more agressive alignment for next year.

Just going to try and show'em the old 88 toyota can still hang haha.

Late to chime in - yep, I'm feeling withdraws.. all this past spring and summer I had the car down, last time I hit the track was February in Gainesville. I didn't jump back into it right away, fresh engine an all so now that I have some mileage on it I feel breakin is good its time to go take it lightely around the track. Definitely missing it.

Yeah I really liked them on my gts wheels in 215/45/16. But I got new rims so Im selling the gts wheels with the rs2's for $300 so it will help pay for a new set of rs2's in 225/50/15. TireRack has been the cheapest Ive seen so far at $99ea.

I would prob say one autox season at the most. Im actually selling them to zak062 but I haven't met up with him to do the exchange, prob this weekend. They're painted semi-gloss black as seem on my car here (tire rack autox):

Yeah, the Celica is doing winter duty. I want to do suspension, wheels and tires on the Miata but I'm getting owned by other expenses. So that might have to wait.

We are thinking of putting on a rallycross type event on a frozen lake up here for some James Bond action... Needs to get really cold first though! You guys need to all buy Toyota 4x4s for the off season. If you go winter wheeling and rod around in a pickup with a welded diff all winter you Celica will seem really really good handling and forgiving! 4 Wheeling also gives you lots of seat time at the limit of adhesion you would usually miss out on all winter. :burn:

i'm feeling the withdrawals. trying to ignore that little red car sitting in the garage until 12-16 weeks from now. argh.

when i heard that it was going to start getting bad weather-wise around Chicago and that there was one last day (Saturday after Turkey day) for driving I took it out early in the morning to see sunrise over Lake Michigan. I drove for a few hours after these pics, topped the tank and parked in the garage. Now I wish I drove it a few hours more before putting it away.

Last ride of 2008:
Sunrise pics:

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y75/goretro77/_D306304_adj.jpg

It was about 17 degrees Fahrenheit when these pics were taken, behind my car just out of the picture was a motorcycle guy who took his ride out for one more time, he was closely holding a cup of coffee he had brought in a thermo mug. My fingers froze after a few pics snapped so I jumped back inside the car and turned the heat on higher. I dunno how you motorcycle guys stand the freezing cold. He was frozen out there but I guess the sunrise is worth it!

I am really having withdrawl.

After winning the last two races of the year in my region (7) in SM class, I was just getting in the groove and now have to wait two months to get back in the game.

Can't wait to beat up on those Mustangs and 240SXs again.

Evolution Driving school is coming to my area in late May, so that will be a LONG wait for some serious fun. Pro Solo the following weekend to test what we learn.

I will be trying hard to trophy in my region next year and can't wait to get started again.

Shocks, replacement bushings, good tires... After running novice try staying in your stock class, it's the cheapest way to go. It's what I would have done if I hadn't done so much modification already.

I hate you... the only HS car I've got access to is the X-runner... which is fun and all, but is still a big ass truck AND it's running on street tires...

Out of curiousity... what car does a stock celica run in? I've never bothered checking.... i think i'd be lumped in FSP same as you if i ran it this season, anyways.

I think the GF and I will be running her new toy a few times this year in H Stock. I guess i should see what else we'd be up against.

Are RA-1s legal in H Stock? :hehe:

01-07-2009, 04:17 PM
Yeah I sold those wheels with the rs2s to zak062.

I get put into SM2 so needless to say I just autox for fun and to improve myself. Obviously I cant be competitive with cars that are trailered to the event haha.

I cant wait to see how the car is this year with all new poly bushings, turbo kit, wider rs2s, more agressive alignment settings.... Though Ill prob be the same if not slower b/c the turbo is larger so Im anticipating the lag to offset the time id gain from the other mods.

ciento44

Actually looks like i'd be in STX in spring. Ugh.

STX is for sedans / coupes with four seats and engines up to 5.1L normally
aspirated or up to 2.0L turbo / supercharged:
- STS allowances
- Tires up to 245 mm wide, UTQG treadwear 140 minimum
- Wheels up to 8 inches wide, any diameter / offset
- Limited slip differentials allowed (including aftermarket) for 2WD cars
- High-flow “cat”
- Larger brake calipers and rotors
- Excluded cars: Audi S4 (V8 engine), BMW M3 (E36 & E46) and M5,
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, Subaru Impreza WRX STi, Mazda RX-8

I want to get in to this too but don't know where I'd be classed with the vert. Mild mods : camry header with cat, struts/ lowering springs,Sri, v6 injectors(not sure it that matters). And full 2.25 exhaust. Oh and my soon to aquire 17's with rs-2's

Retro, that looks SO fun, where is that in Chi-area and how much a day?

Its way more fun than it looks!

Here's how it looks from my helmet:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_1Gv3_q02I

Its in Buffalo Grove, IL - a suburb about 30 minutes Northwest from Chicago.
www.chicagoindoorracing.com

Its $10 a race. Pretty cheap for wheel to wheel racing, you show up and drive, don't even have to worry about the gas. It has computer timing equipment and you get a printout from every race at the end of the day. If you don't have your own helmet they will supply you a helmet, coveralls and neck brace as part of that $10 rental.

You can't floor these karts around a turn like kiddie go-carts, if you try to you'll understeer too much. Have to get some weight to the front wheels with a touch of the brake, just breathe it a bit and balance a slight drift through the turn with the throttle. Exactly like a mid-engined car,the weight in the back always wants to be in the front, so in the turn never lift off the throttle, either maintain throttle or gas it hard through the turn. Its hard to see in the video but that is what I'm doing around the track.

The printout tells you your ranking. I'm 27 out of 147,651 people. I just need more seat time according to the uber-fast guys. They go every week - I go maybe twice a month. I want to break into the top 10 but those guys are incredibly fast....must work on my driving and improve.

Cavanagh
01-23-2009, 06:34 AM
