lol its fine.

i was driving and i looked in my rear view and this dood in a magnum pulled off into a turn lane and stopped and got out of his car and another car stopped behind him.
i was watching this instead of the red light infront of me. i looked ahead of me and the light was red and a mini cooper was turning and i couldnt stop, i tried to swerve and cut too late.
Destroyed the right rear quarter of the cooper and the front end of my truck.

Here is what it looked liked after some creative use of a come-along and a couple trees.

still drove the truck for another 8k miles or so.

It is a $100 fine, last I heard. I don't know if it adds points to you license or not.

However, we are rather fortunate that there isn't an actual muffler law here in Tennessee that I know of. I have been driving for years without one on Chaos. The only times I have been harassed about noise violations was over my stereo, and that was in Athens.

If you are running an open header, a good tip is to let off the gas when you see a cop, if your engine isn't pulling a load, it is much more quiet. I have run open headers on several of my Camaros successfully without problems using this method.

Thanks for the tip, i was scanning tennessee website and there is a "loud muffler" citation which is $107 but when you click it , it just goes to a citation of repair page. so i dunno.

I have a straight pipe from the resonator back.

It's fairly loud... despite being just a 1.6L with a 1.25" pipe.

It's been that way for about 2 years now. Even in Illinois, where the vehicle code says you must have a factory exhaust, nobody pays attention to it. Have I gotten pulled over for it? No. Have I ever gotten pulled over in my celica after 6 years of ownership? No.

If you're not doing something blatantly suspicious, and not driving like an idiot, no self-respecting officer will pull you over for noise.

im planning on hacking my entire exaust off for a little while after i put my header on.
see how it sounds then throw a 40 series on there if i dont like it or my parents bitch.

for arizona they pulled me over for my exhaust and asked if it was under the regulation noise. i lied out the ass and said its well below 96 decibels. done.
