1995 Taurus SHO. Auto tranny, 3.2 litre.

195k miles.

What do i look out for besides the obvious weird engine noises, leaks, rust, etc.

The blue oval on the grille combined with the rather high amount of miles would tell me to run away. It it were a silver loopy logo on the grille then i might consider that many miles...

But a ford?

Meh.

You know, at least ford does something right when they build their cars, they circle the problem....lol

If that engine hasn't seen a full rebuild and head service, forget it.

I second that.

That's what i was looking for. I know these Yammies are a bit more high strung.

Thanks! Looks like i'm passing.

The rest of you, STFU until you can hang with a stock SHO. It's not a Ford motor so quit jumping to conclusions. SPOILER: 3sgte was designed by same company. It says "yamaha" on the timing belt cover for a reason.

I haven't had a domestic make it past 150k to be perfectly honest. So they get a thumbs down in my book. Also, all the ones I do know of that make it that long, have had rebuilt or replaced motors.

Everyone around here flakes out worse than you do when deciding to have an Alltrac or an MR2.....

I told that guy with the Corolla i had cash in hand, could pick it up this past weekend, and he suddenly stopped replying.

The guy with the Range Rover disappeared.

All these other options that come up that look good turn out to be the biggest shitboxes i've ever seen, or they refuse to come down off of their grossly inflated prices, or both at the same time.

It's friggen pissing me off.

This SHO looked good for $600, has a good body, needs a crank position sensor, but i know WOT has had experience with these, and if he says it's trash, it's trash.

I'm about to give up and just get another Honda and you'll all have to live with stories about how it's faster than your MR2. :hehe:

You want me to buy something already? Find me something in Indy worth buying for $1000-$1200.

It's not trash, but if it hasn't you're not going to make much power with it, or have much fun until it IS done. Those valves and guides are going to be so fucked by now I'd be amazed if it didn't burn a ton of oil. NOT a set it and forget it engine.

I'm just honestly looking for a daily that isn't something like a cavalier or sunfire.

Stick is a huge preference, but will give that up for the right car. Cheap is a #1 priority, i don't want to take money away from the Celica.

Would prefer something that i can dick around a little with after the Celica is done/driveable.

Aint gonna happen. Get yourself a little beater corolla and start saving for something you can play with. Anything you can buy for really cheap, that also has decent upgrade capacity, is going to have too many issues to make a reliable dd.
