I have never seen a ring file wear much outside of a professional shop. I have seen some that have gone through 20-30 engines with little wear.

What are you talking about? I have a nagging feeling you aren't talking about a piston ring gapping file...

If you are, I use Proform p/n 66785. Cost me $40 and is good quality.

The stone itself is good though right? It is just the housing that is falling apart?

Summit has them fairly cheap, I think that is where I got mine last time I bought one. I want to say it was a Proform like what WOT is talking about.
