does anyone know what would be a good muffler for my 5sfe mortor. i all ready have headers and 2.25in exhaust pipes now a good sounding muffler thats not a fart can that will make it sound like a ricer. but still sounds good.

Flowmaster makes a good muffler.

If you want something other than a straight through fart can, you can find dozens of manufacturers that produce chambered mufflers.

Borla, Dynomax, Flowmaster, Edelbrock, Warlock, etc...

It is all up to how much you want to pay.

Flowmaster sounds like ass... way too loud.

Magnaflow FTW.

90celicaSt was just being a lil hard on you. header is the correct term. headers refers to sets of headers, 6 cylinder's and on have headers.

magnaflow quieter than a flowmaster? Hardly, and it depends on what flowmaster you get and what motor you put it on, but I've yet to hear one be overly loud and I have heard magnaflows sound quite ricey. I have a 40 series on the grand prix and its not loud at all. As for putting a flowmaster on a celica, its a good sounding muffler, but I dont think its quite fitting for these cars. Flowmasters have my vote though, they are very well designed.

Seeing as Crash60068 has not updated his profile to say what car he has and which motor is in it, why does it matter? :p

If it's NA I'd go with Borla. Nice tone and not overly loud or ricey, in my experience. Flowmaster is a close second, depending on the model chosen.

If it's FI I'd recommend Apexi. Nice deep tone without the rice rattle.

Im still a big fan of flowmaster, heres why

flow master- http://discountpowerparts.com/catalog/images/Flowmaster%2050%20Delta%20Series.jpg

magnaflow- http://www.furinox.com/mufflerpics/magnaflow.jpg

I unno all metal sounds great to me, the only thing is flowmaster gives a somewhat hallow sound and as I said doesnt sound quite fitting for a celica imo, but you wont have a ricer tone at all. As I said I've heard magnaflows do it and why? Its a strait pipe with insulation, woowee. Thats just my take on it, Im not against magnaflow, they are my 2nd choice of muffler actually, but I dont think people understand its nothing but a strait pipe with sound dampener

That's the basis of a straight-through muffler. However, the benefit of an absorption muffler over a baffled muffler is that greater sound suppression via a larger/longer muffler has virtually no effect on exhaust flow. If the 14" muffler's not quiet enough for you, step up to an 18".

A baffled muffler works by disrupting exhaust flow, which is really the last thing you want when trying to improve exhaust flow (better exhaust flow = better engine performance, and better does not equal more capacity).

Magnaflows are filled with ceramic insulation and steel wool, which means unlike glass packs with their fibreglass insulation they will not lose their absorptive capacity over time.

The Magnaflow pictured above is not the only style they offer. They have many mufflers that are very similar in design and materials to the Flowmaster mufflers.

An engine with more than one head has 'headers.'

Engines with one head have a 'header.'

A Subaru with a boxer 4 cylinder has a set of headers.

A Supra with a 5MGE will have a header.

i have dual manifolds sir

well i would tell the orginal poster to go with a borla (what i have on my subaru but duals) but i think that it may be too pricey, but i hardly have any drone, and my car is almost silet inside the cabin with the windows up on the highway.

honestly its to quiet 4 me but i have a 3 inch catless dp i havent installed yet

^ this is a celica with a super 44 that sounds pretty good. There are a couple other vids on youtube with some with regular 40 series, but they have the cam a little too close to the exhaust. This actually sounds real nice to me, different from what Im use to flowmasters sounding like

Sadly, I don't really have decent video equipment to capture the sound properly, just a simple camera that has no low freq sound capture at all. I'll have to ask my buddy if he has a digital camcorder or something with a decent mic pick up.

Do you want it to sound good, or do you want it to extract power?
