delivering pizzas in a rx7?? :G:

kinda reminds me of this college kid here in dekalb who has a nice mk4 supra twin turbo delivering for papa johns or this real young kid who has a brand new corvette but drives it in the winter too. Obviously, they cant really afford these cars if they drive them all the time.

Yes. That's a big turbo. HX52 off of a Volvo Semi. compressor is 67mm in 98mm exducer

Did he use a D series manifold??? Looks like some grinding was done around the stud holes....JDM tight tho!

holy bajeez thats a big turbo! I kinda fail to see the point, wouldnt a turbo that big not spool til high RPM? Although honda motors do tend to have a wide RPM range....

He made that manifold himself. He used to run a ram-horn, but couldn't fit the turbo with it. He had to move the radiator at a 45 degree angle to fit the turbo, as well. It's pretty funny. Those huge braided lines you see? Came off a used NASCAR motor. He's just not that pretty of a welder. :hehe:

It's a stroked LS Vtec to a 2.1 litre. It starts to spool just before 6k and he tries to keep it below 9500rpms, but it's built to go higher. He was spinning his last motor to 10k. We think. His VAFC was showing 10400 as top rpms a couple times.

Wow... makes sense that you can't spool till 6 grand or so, but how the hell would you drive that thing around town????

Is it like driving a Metro until 6k rpm... then it just explodes or what?

It's actually not too bad... feels about like a B20 swap out of boost.

2.1 litres in a little civic hatch, even with the 9.0:1 compression (i think) moves well enough to keep up with traffic.

And explodes isn't exactly the word for it. On street tires, if he rolls into the gas in 4th gear, when it builds boost, it spins.

I believe you when you say it can keep up with traffic, but I have trouble believing you can stuff enough air in a 2.1 liter engine with 9.0:1 compression to generate 600 hp and it not detonate. I would think that it requires much lower compression... how big of an intercooler does he have?

you make a good point there ghost, with a turbo that big I'd expect it to be handling a very high amount of boost, and 9:1 is pretty high compression, that seems questionable to me as well

Where do you buy used nascar motor parts? Arent Nascar motors like used one race then discarded?

Look at the high hp 3sgtes.... a lot of them run CP pistons with 9.0:1 compression.

He has a large intercooler, i don't know exactly the dimensions, but i can find out. On the other hand, with a larger turbo, the charge is cooler, less likely to detonate. He's only running 23-25psi on that turbo at the moment i believe. Now... 23-25psi on say... a 14b would be MORE likely to detonate on this particular motor. It's a fully sleeved ($1500 sleeves alone) and built motor. It not detonating anytime soon unless he screws up the tune, and it's a VERY conservative tune in terms of timing.

In general the high HP hondas, toyotas, etc tend not to go much lower than 9.0:1 compression.
