Hey I'm new to the celicas but I was wondering if there’s any different between the Gt and gts model?

the only differences are appearence. the biggest being GT-S has a widebody, the GT is standard/narrow body. engine & trans are the same. GT-S weighs more. GT-S would have more standard options, including ABS. there might be a difference in suspension, but i'm not sure.

hope that helps.

isn't the top speed different? The gauge clusters are different. My GT speedometer goes up to 120mph while gt-s's apparently go up to 150mph?

The gauges are different but I doubt the top speed is much different, the gearing might be a little different because of the tires. The GTS comes with wider tires and bigger rims than the GT. The stock size is 14" and 185 wide on the 90-91 GT which is pretty damn small. Also the 90-91 GT comes with drums in the back, they went to discs in the back in 92. If I remember all years of the GTS had disc brakes all around.

Basically, the GTS is a "premium" version of the GT. More power features, more luxury features, and the widebody. Same powertrain and suspension. GT were available in coupe or narrow hatchback form. GTS only came in widebody hatch.

Edit: Forgot to mention, but GTS are heavier than GT. 4 Wheel discs were standard on GTS and 92-93 GT.

Gearing isn't any different. The GTS got wider tires and bigger wheels, but the overall diametre between the GT and GTS stock wheels is identical, meaning the speedo and everything else is calibrated to the same number of revolutions per kilometre/mile.

Don't forget the system 10. GT got two tweeters, two 4" woofers in the dash, and two 6.5" mid-bass in ported enclosures in the rear. GTS added two rear tweeters and two 8" door subs with a factory amp and a CD player.

A lot of the options on the GT were standard on the GTS, including the electronically controlled transmission which could be set for faster launches.

System 10 wasn't standard, at least not in 90/91 in the US.
As far as ECT, it controlled the rpms the transmission shifted at. When it was on, it shifted at a higher rpm, and downshifted at a lower rpm. At full throttle it shifted at redline [or close to it]. I don't know for sure what a GT shifted at at full throttle, but I'm guessing it would be somewhere close to that.

I assume ECT would had some effect on fuel economy?
better or worse?

also on a english note...whats the difference between effect and affect?

effect is a noun

affect is a verb

GT comes in the convertible too.

GT without ECT doesn't shift anywhere near the redline -- speaking from experience. Higher RPM means more gas burned and more power produced. It's all about acceleration -- which decreases fuel economy.

GTS and All-tracs were the only ones to get the system 10 -- wasn't an option for anything less.

When you affect someone, you create an effect.

Mine would shift at redline with ECT on (when it was an auto).

wrong - System 10 was an option in all models except ST. It's just pretty rare to find it in a GT.

My GT came stock with 205/55/15's thats pretty wide for stock.... On aluminum wheels not steel...

JUST A NOTE:

Effect = The Result of something (Ex. When the new law goes into effect)
Affect = To influence or have an influence on ( Ex. How smoking affects health )

Yeah the 92-93 got wider tires and bigger wheels and disc brakes all around compared to the 90-91.

90-91 ST came with 185/70-13
90-91 GT came with 185/65-14
90-91 GTS came with 215/50-15

92-93 ST came with 185/65-14
92-93 GT came with 205/55-15
92-93 GTS came with 215/50-15
