View Full Version : check engine light

My wife said turn here and the next thing I know I'm cruising down this dirt road back thru the woods. Well the air cleaner on my cold air intake fell off and before I knew it my check engine light came on and I was chugging along when I got back to the asphalt. I suspect that something in my throttle body has become clogged. Any suggestions?

1990 is OBD1. Probably an air flow sensor. If the cleaner fell off it's prolly reading some kinda fucked up number from the sensor and triggering the CEL. Bridge TE1 and E1 on your diagnostic port and get the code from the CEL flashes, and look up the number in the BGB to be sure. Or you can install a new cleaner and see if that clears it up. Either way, don't drive it around like that.

Re-install your air cleaner, pull the EFI fuse and wait 10seconds, re-install EFI fuse, start car and drive for 10 miles. Then check again for any codes.

Air temp sensor, maybe tb butterfly not closing all the way from debris. As suggested, reset the ecu and see what you get.

^^ My guess is an AIT code. I'd like to know if that fixed it for him or not as well.
