Damn you guys must be getting sick of me asking these questions but i just want to know

how does this POS work

http://www.streetbeatcustoms.com/Surge-Engineering/Performance-Chips/Surge-Performance-Chip/17558/

i dont belive that would do anything to help power but does anyone here have any insight

thanks

EDIT:

or this

http://www.streetbeatcustoms.com/Surge-Engineering/Performance-Chips/Stage-3-Surge-O2-Chip-Combo/544396/

that one kinda makes sense but still seems to good to be true

EDIT:

would this be a simple addon to my car :D

Chips don't work, they just screw with your air-fuel mix.

Electric turbochargers don't work, they don't provide any real pressure compared to naturally aspirated intakes (there's a reason boost is measured in PSI or KPa).

They are all scams. None of them do what they advertise. I'm telling you, just save up your money for now, and don't worry about your friends. Just enjoy getting better gas mileage while they zoom off into the sunset

Dammit so the only real way that I can get any HP is thru a turbo??

90CelicaST
08-13-2008, 01:31 PM
Not necessarily. What you will have to do, is build up your motor. These silly "addons" won't do anything. You will have to sink some actual money into it.

sweet now thats what im saying :)

well i get payed in 2 weeks and i should have around 500 dollars to spend

An old turbo from a Mitsubishi would be a good find, then have it rebuilt. Some people have used their intercoolers as well, but it's an odd shape for the Celica. Grab the injectors while you are at it.

This might be a good read for you. http://www.celicatech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20493&highlight=4afte

Alright, i read 2 pages of that and am very enlightened LOL

first of all, is a head swap or a block swap easy at all.

Which one is easier, would that be a good idea for me or no

old mitubishi turbo, about how much would that cost?

would i still have to get a custom intake manifold? or did the guy that told me that BS me LOL

also would i really need new injectors if all im doing is running like 8 PSI boost

and what HP gain am i looking at

This is getting me pumped for next weekend :)

^Yeah, but you can only use the turbo, not the manifold.

I can't answer this question entirely, but I can tell you you would need the ECU that goes with it, and possibly the entire harness from the car it came out of. Are you comfortable with rewiring bits of your car?

Probably not

old mitubishi turbo, about how much would that cost?
All junkyards are different, you will have to check with them when you go

would i still have to get a custom intake manifold? or did the guy that told me that BS me LOLWho told you that? They are dead wrong

also would i really need new injectors if all im doing is running like 8 PSI boost
Might as well, the stock injectors are like 176cc.

and what HP gain am i looking at
When Snafu done his, he reported around 170hp to the wheels.

Even with $500, that's a pretty skimpy budget for a large upgrade. To go turbo, or an engine swap, or even supercharged you're going to have to go at least over $1000 to do the job right and make it anywhere near as reliable as your ST is at this point.

The ease of a motor or head swap depends on how much you know, or what kind of help you have. What work have you done on cars before? Ever replaced a headgasket? Do you have anyone that can help and, most importantly, knows what they're doing?

Read this very carfully. If you rush things, it won't be done right, whether it's by you or whoever does the work for you. It's up to you to do the research, if you don't you won't have the information you need. Slow down, don't rush, and read as much stuff as you can. We're here to inform you of your car as well, we won't just tell you to "buy this, this, that, and one of those" and put it together.

If you rush things, I swear you will end up making a thread that says "OMG LOL ROFL I blew up my motor will a v8 fit?"

haha yea thats fuckin great

hey i was wondering, how do i know what engine i actually have

Does it look like the valve cover has been painted from the factory, or just by the previous owner?

You have to do the whole turbo kit at once.

You sound like you'd be happier on spray.

I'm a big fan of the OEM 3 piece wing on coupes. I actually have one laying around I'll sell you if you're interested. I'm in PA though so shipping will either take a week or cost an arm and a leg lol.

My opinion on your power goal is that you shouldn't want to just "keep up with your friends". Your car isn't a honda. That has a lot of pro's and cons'

You're not just going to bolt on some NA hp. Is it possible? Yeah you can squeeze a good bit if your patient and crafty. Keep reading. Save your money the whole time you're learning everything. Yeah you can toss a turbo kit on there that someone else put together and blow your friends doors off a few times before you're reselling your car on craigslist. Pick your battles.

If you're planning to go turbo. Pick up an SAFC 2 used off someone they are ballpark 100-150$. If you're new to wiring take your time. It should only take you about a weekend to install. Read up on how the unit itself works. It has tons of features a lot of people don't tend to use. Avoid the NEO it has a lot you won't need like v-tec controller etc.. With a DIY Intake, Header, Exhaust, slightly Advanced ignition timing (requires running mid to high grade gas) and a Decent tune on an SAFC can very well yield you +20 brake HP. Doesn't sound like a lot but if you're good with your tuning you can spread that along the power band.

All of this can be done on the cheap wile saving for your turbo kit. if you're patient! If you have friends that can help you out even better! A lot of people will say it's wasted money though it can be done for under 500$ doing a lot of work yourself. You're really getting the knowledge and experience that will make your car much more well rounded when you take the step to FI.

If he removes the bondo and gets a cheap paint job I think it'd look pretty good. That guy that he the body kitted white ST looked pretty good.

Bud.... try not to ask the same question in three different threads.

We already said the turbo would be fine. Your stock intake manifold is fine. You need a TURBO MANIFOLD.

That is normally a pretty rare custom piece. I would suggest eBay.
