And Corolla/Matrix.

Toyota changed the oil fill specs for the 00 - 05 1ZZFE Celica and 03 - 05 Corolla/Matrix. ONLY the 1ZZFE, not the 2ZZGE.
Increased the oil capacity by .5 quarts, total now is 4.4 quarts.
They have an updated dipstick to reflect the new amount.
Part # 15301-22050.
The updated dipstick has a mark [some type of square] on the top of the ring.

It is NOT a recall/campaign, you will have to buy the dipstick yourself.

The reason behind this is?

A coworker of mine has a Matrix, I will let him know.

I would guess they wanted the engine to have more oil available, means each particle has to work a slight bit less.

It might have something to do with a design change inside the engine.

It [as of now at least] doesn't effect any other year 1ZZFE, the 06 - 08 still take 3.9 quarts [09 is a new engine], though they're supposed to use 5W20, even though some caps say 5W30. :P

The 00 - 02 Corolla/Matrix also still take 3.9 quarts, it's only the 03 - 05 that is changed.

Hmm, thanks for the info, I've got a coworker who needs to know, too. He decided to buy his neighbor's '01 GT after watching me abuse mine for three years with minimal problems. :hehe: Everyone I work with has decided that Celicas are indestructible.

Thats quite an interesting decision, wonder what the cause for this was

I suppose this holds true for MR2 Spyders as well? My GF has an '02 MRS.

Not necessarily. If they were that specific in the years and models I'd think they would include the spyders if they were effected.

Exactly

ONLY the models and years listed are effected.

I bet the same exact engines in other countries call for a different viscosity oil. A lot of the new cars in the US are calling for 5w20. Forgot the reason for it, might be for better fuel economy or some US emissions thing.

i like how new cars call for 5w20 or 30 but most dealerships bulk oil is 10w30

Reason behind it is 1zzfes like to spin bearings.

I told my Coworker with a Vibe that he was a dipstick.

That was what I was supposed to do, right?
