So check this out guys. A colleague of mine just purchased and 88 FC RX-7. It's Normally aspirated and it's a convertible. He want's to run my 'Trac which is completely stock except for the short throw shifter. Now he says his car ways 3012 pounds and I know my car weighs roughly 3200 pounds which puts me at a slight weight disadvantage. His car produces 147 horsepower from the factory. Now typically I wouldn't be the slightest bit worried and I'd simply rip whatever car was challenging me with these kind of stats :burn: ... but we're talkin bout rotary now. I've been told by two people (One person being my dad whose opinion I greatly respect) that rotaries consistently perform out of their class and outperform alot of cars with more horspower. Of course he doesn't want to do it from a dig because I'd murder him off the line. He's a little hesitant about doing it from a 20 or 30 mph roll because of his lack of torque but he's willing to do that. He claims the car pulls super strong on the highway from 60 to 100 and a little beyond. So basically I'm a little concerned since I've never raced one and I need your guys opinion. Can my stock 'Trac beat this car??

Thanks in advance

Lance

Hrmmm. Best bet is to: Just try it out...on a road where its legal...or closed.

Why would you be so concerned about losing?

I'm not so much concerned with losing as much as concerned with being unexpectedly surprised. I'd really prefer to have some idea of what to expect if I decide to run him.

friend of mine also had one. n/a ones beat me because i have a 5sfe... im sure you can pull on him easily. you have more torque and hp. but we'll see when you race him.

I think you will win, thats what I meant. You have turbo and but more weight...esp off the line I would expect you to win. Do some weight-loss before! Take out seats and spare stuff!

you have an alltrac, launch the shit outta it and win. dont bog the launch and u'll be fine if your car is running properly.

Both cars are pretty slow.. it's probably close enough to be a driver's race.

We're doing it from a roll. Obviously he would get murdered from a dig. I doubt both cars are so slow that it'll boil down to a drivers race...he's down over 50 hp....O_o

brake boost and you will pull on him right after the 3rd honk.

I'll end it all if he beats you and you didn't blow up.

This is not a driver's race to even consider. If you're going from a roll, the alltrac will annihilate that thing.

For pete's sake, i've walked all over those from a dig in my old 93 gt coupe.

No, there is no way a stock alltrac will lose to an NA FC.

Those things are horribly slow.

Thanks so much guys! Just the reassurance I needed..."Drivers race" lmbo. Turns out he's got a camera so if and when it goes down I'll try to get footage of it and let you guys know how bad I pull on him.

Dude, horsepower is horsepower.

You should be able to kick the crap out of an NA FC CONVERTIBLE.

a 3,012lbs Vert'?
Anywho, do you have a 165 or 185? Either way i think you have him.

lol that's a good point. He told me the weight I never thought to look it up myself. I have a 185 by the way.

I checked the numbers and he was actually pretty close to being accurate. A little over 3000 pounds give or take. They are pretty light cars. The hardtops weigh 2900.

Light? You may think that because you're sporting a tank...

AT is friggin HEAVY.

A Turbo II. TECHNICALLY I still have the power advantage lol but I have a feeling that might be a bit harder. Funny you mention it though, my friend plans on droppin a Turbo II motor in it in the future. I think that would be a close race.

Well Folks guess who backed outta the race lol. He said quote "The car is not as fast as I would have hoped, the motor gives you as sense of going much faster lol." That sucks. I really wanted to run that car :(

FD FTW.

FCs are cute but FDs are just AWESOME looking. Some of the prettiest cars on the road, those.

fc's look surprisingly similar to mk3s. i always mistake one for the other at first glance.

Ewww...idk i dont find them that great looking. Im a TRUE hater of 80's cars but i love the FCs. I ALMOST bought an 89' FC Turbo II with a bad fuel pump....he never responeded.

I like FDs..... and there's 6-7 of them that i know locally....

Only one has a rotary. The others are all LSx motors.

Well boy oh boy do I have a update for you guys lol. Three races in one night! lol. Turns out I ended up running my friends RX-7 (And I'm buying it now also lo) and I muuuuurrdered it lol. We did on from a dig and I just launched the hell outta the car and just left him by about 6 cars. Then we did a roll and he did a little better but his bushings are messed (Non existent actually) but I still ripped him. Then I raced his dumb ass friend in an 04 mustang who drives like an absolute maniac! We did it from a dig and I totally shocked him and ripped off the line. This is the V6 mustang by the way with 190 hp so it was a nice match up. But after launches and roll starts I would still start pulling from him at around 50 mph. So that was two races under my belt. But the highlight of the night was my race with a 95 GSR (Or at least I thought it was). We were led to believe that it was a GSR with Headers and Intake and Exhaust and that's it. So I decided to run him. So we get on the freeway and we commence to doing 2nd and 3rd gear pulls. Even though I'm grinding 3rd gear I still did pretty well. I would pull on him really strong when his wasn't on but as soon as it kicked he would creep on me pretty well. Come to find out later it was actually a Type R engine with all that work. Effectively putting him at a little over 200hp. So the fact that I was even able to pull on him at all in a car that weighs rougly 900 pounds more without me in it was awesome! Toyota's rule!

It is easier from a roll for me, the Buick has no traction in first and second.

I don't have anyone to race with...it's always a good race with the S15, but my cousin keeps reminding me how i'm boosting 1 bar and his is only 0.7...all the Rx7s I've seen here are GORGEOUS, and none of them are ever stock. They're usually fully kitted out so it's never a fair race as usually they're pushing out 500-600 hp...but it's always fun trashing the ricers. But now it's in the shop with a blown gasket and I miss it :(

Saw a purple RX7 FA Savanna today...I think it's possibly better looking than the FD.

so a full kit makes cars fast?

Kitted out doesn't necessarily mean body kit. He might mean engine mods also.
