View Full Version : Carrier Bearing (RH Axle) 5th Gen

I'm installing new passenger side axle/half shaft in my 93 GT, and have run into a bit of a quandry, how to remove the carrier bearing assembly.

as you can see from the first picture, i have removed the outer bracket which mounts to the block, but i need to know how to remove the inner assembly (2nd pic) from the bearing, as the new axle doesn't have it (as shon in the 3rd pic).

The haynes manual speaks of loosening the "driveshaft lock bolt" (illustration 11.2 on page 8-11), but this mystery bolt does not exist on my car. :thumbsdow

does anybody know how to seperate the inner assembly from the carrier bearing?

I was digging through the BGB, but hadn't reached that section yet. :bigthumbu

for search reasons in the BGB, it's section SA

ok, after having every shop scratch their head, and say "sorry i can't figure out the logistics", i broke down and did it my self.

i just lubed up the carrier and "tapped" it on with my BFH.
it went on fairly easy, so easy that i wish i would've resorted to this 3 weeks ago.

That's what i get for trying to do things the right way.

I just found a difference between MR2s and Celicas in this post.

NA MR2s dont have a carrier bearing.

That's got to be the only difference, I can't think of any others.

Jeremy, you smartass.

I just think its odd the celica gets a carrier bearing and the NA MR2 doesnt. My MR2 has one, but NAs sure dont.
