So the other day i was replacing a bunch of interior parts on an 01 mercedes amg e55(sweet car). the center console lid had a gas shock that opened it. well the new lid that i put in it came with a new shock...so i got to keep the old one.. what are your opinions on custom fabbing it to open my console lid?

wouldn't installing the strut once be more work than opening the lid by hand for the rest of your life?

actually i finished it up yesterday in about 15 minutes and it turned out really well..it works great and will also prevent against breaking those sliding hinge things...i made a bracket to mount on the lid and a bracket for the bottom of the console..i will take pics as soon as my dad gets home(he has the camera)

"wouldn't installing the strut once be more work than opening the lid by hand for the rest of your life?"

It might but that's not the point... it's more along the lines of 'Can it be done? and look stock?' plus there's the COOLNESS factor knowing that you're the only one that has it...
