So a friend of mine has a tiburon thats skrewed up. Let me explain. The clutch was slipping so one day comming home, he strts to climb his driveway. Now this driveway is a gravel hill going up in elevation about 400 feet in a matter of 50 yards. So...hes going..clutch slipping...more gas...still slipping but slowely moving...about half way up the flywheel got so hot from the friction that it actually melted out of the bolts holding it and proceded to go through the bellhousing, bounce off the radiator and up to the hood...destroying everything in its path. Its a nice looking car, has a little over 100k miles, 2000 model with the 2.0 dohc. He offered to sell it to me for $800. Think its worth it?

a buddy of mine has a 2000 tibby with the 2.0l he calls it the beta motor or something I cannot exactly remember?

heres his

there pretty decent cars his made close to 350whp on a unopened motor so it sounds like its a pretty stout motor.... and they look pretty simple to work on.. if it just needs clutch and flywheel I think you could have a couple of hundred into it to get it running again I know that majority of elantra 5 speed parts will work with that motor aswell... I think its worth 800!

Hyundai also made a good effort to provide the equivalent of aftermarket support through its dealerships, so there's a decent assortment of mods available.

Member on here used to have one, his descriptions was: "like a 6GC, with the build quality of a Nissan."

The only thing that bothers me and will probably be expensive is that the flywheel broke the trans housing. since its fwd it doesnt really have a bellhousing that can be replaced, I'd have to get a new tranny case or a new tranny.

Make sure it didn't also mess up the crank or the block where the trans mounts to it. Every flywheel explosion I've ever ever seen, took out a piece of the motor with it, but since it didn't actaully "explode", it may be ok. Of course, all the flywheel expolsions I have seen also happened in american V8 powered cars...

i think they're really ugly, i wouldn't want one at all. I think you should sink that $800 into your celica rather than buying the tiburon.

you guys are thinking about it all wrong, what if he fixed the car? Got a tranny, radiator, whatever as long as it didnt hurt the motor? Can get a tranny pretty cheap if he looked at the right yard. Takes out the busted bolt studs, replaced the flywheel, tranny, whatever else and resells it? He can get a few grand out of it if he doesnt want to keep the car, the resell value is still pretty good on those cars. With that said, the only tib I actually are about are the 3rd gens, but I'd take this one at that price

It was too dark lastnight when I got there to get pics. Its like GT90 was sayin, I'll probably just sell it. I figure i could make 2g profit off of it around here.

All he was talking about was how much he likes the new tiburon and says the old ones can fall off a cliff. And the V6, which is not even what the one Collapsed Nut has.

You refered to me as "The Collapsed Nut"...Bad ass. Didn't have time today to go get pics, tryin to get moved into a place. One thing to add. To get the $800 for the tibby..I'll have to sell my celica... Now lets think about this. I have a 90 st, needs auto trans work, cv joints, oil pan gasket, cam seal, 3s swap :lolhittin , minor body work, 3s swap, new struts, 3s swap, muffler, 3s swap... So which way would I comeout better? Sell the celica for 1g and get the tibby or keep a slow 240k mile celica ST

Celica, it actually runs unlike the Tib. And it's a Toyota.

I don't know man this a tough one. I would make sure that you can get the Tibby up and running reliably for a reasonable amount of money. If so I would totally go for it.

In my opinion there are a lot of pros on the Hyundai's side. 10 years newer, which means that the electronics are newer, rubber in the suspension, easy to find parts for it etc. You'll get an updated interior, I personally really like that generations interior.

I have had nothing but good experiences with 2000 and newer Hyundai's. The only problems I've seen are with the auto trannies.
