I recently bought and installed some e-code autopal headlights off e-bay. A little better than the sealed beams but I suspect I can do a little better with improved bulbs. Currently it has the ones that came with it which I believe are 55W white.

Any suggestions? I am sure there are pertinent bits of information I am not privvy to. Tried to do a search but a lot of the old threads have disapeared.

I would have bought higher wattage bulbs to start with but I was worried about wiring etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Skip the higher wattage, go higher efficiency.

SO from that I am assuming Osram Silverstars are the way to go. Do you have to order them online or can you get them in stores? I think I have only seen the Slyvania versions in autozone which I presume most people mistakenly think are the same.

Once again Galcobar you come to my rescue.

The best prices I can find for higher-efficiency bulbs are at powerbulbs.co.uk

They offer free shipping anywhere in the world, or at least did last time I checked.

I should also point out there are various options for improved H4 bulbs; 30% (Osram Super, Philips Premium), 50% (Osram Silverstar, Philips VisionPlus), and higher (GE Nighthawk, Philips X-Treme, Osram Night Breaker).

The higher the efficiency, the shorter the life (and the higher the price, typically). Watch for the highest efficiency bulbs, they are often sold singly rather than as a pair.

the thing about the autopals is the dims arent too much improved, but the brights are MUCH better, thats what I love about them, they really help and dont bother oncoming drivers

If you want another option that are also good, similar to the Osram Silverstar. GE Nighthawk bulbs are pretty similar in performance and will only run you $10-15 each. Just don't get the ones with the blue tint called the Nighthawk Sport.

I got them off ebay. Click on the link I have posted below. The bidding has ended on the item (because I bought them) but just scroll down to go to the sellers store. They have plenty left I am sure. Just make sure you buy the same ones specified in the original thread.
