91 celica gt with 5sfe stock. i dont want to go to turbo so i'm looking at the 3sge to get a few more horses but still be able to use regular fuel (not premium).

some questions for all you celica / engine gurus:

assuming i reuse all tin parts / bolt-ons from the 5sfe, what else is required to do a swap?

which BGB on the homepage would be applicable to the 3sge engine?

i'm also considering purchase of 5sfe remanufactured engine to save some $$$.....what is a decent price for 5sfe reman'd engine?

thanks

Well I run a Gen 3, and you'd definitely want to run Premium.

I ran premium in my 5SFE after I advanced the timing. My 2JZGE requires it.

Most of the G head engines do.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm thinking for now i want to keep everything stock and go with the 5sfe until the oil "bubble" bursts...hehehe

i'm in a similar boat. i'm looking at engines to swap out my 5sfe too. if you go with a 3sge you can use regular gas but your only going to get like another 15hp and i think thats if its the 2nd gen.(please correct me if i'm wrong) but at least you could buy parts for the 3sge because there are next to no parts at all for the 5sfe. personally i'm planning in swaping in a beams 3sge when i have the money.

I have a Gen 3 3SGE so let me fix some of your responses.

Wrong, you "can" run regular on the gen 3 but it'll pull timing like a bastard, run like shit and make little to no power.

Perhaps on a 2nd gen, haven't actually seen a dyno of one, but on a 3rd gen...

Stock 5SFE makes 105 to the wheels.

LOL... this was my response from Toyota Motorsports when I tried to get some parts for my gen 3.

this is true for the 3rd gen but there is a difference between it and the 2nd gen. the 2nd gen is make around 150hp at the crank. i tried looking for it again but i cant find where i did read that you can run a 2nd gen in regular gas. as for the parts, yeah trd doesn't make shit for older cars anymore. i havent looked in a while cuz i'm set in doin the beams swap and thats about it, but i know hks and jun make parts. is it me or does toyota suck now. they made such awesome cars back in the day but it's a pain in the ass to do anything with them now.

They can get any Toyota Japan part.

PS: It's Toyota USA that sucks... Same with TRD USA.
