i replaced the headers on my 96. after i change the headers the check engine light wasnt not untill i pass 4k rpm. then it stays on. once i reset the ecu the light goes off and stays off untill i go pass 4k rpm again why is this???

Did you reconnect your O2 sensor in the correct place, and ensure you have catalytic converters of the correct size and in the right position?

maybe because your 96 only has a header.

Yes, that's the first thing.
You only have 1 headER, not headers. That's plural.

Secondly, like Galcobar said, you need to have both O2 sensors hooked up, and a working cat in between them.

And third, it would REALLY help if you posted what the code is, there are several hundred codes for the CEL.....

You disturbed the O2 sensor... apparently they don't like that.

lol must be. well i reset the ecu and it hasnt came on yet. only because i havent floored it. but you think the code is still stored in this???

not if you reset it but if the sensor checks out ok after after a few start ups then the light will go away but still be stored

actually guys one thing overlooked is the possibility the exhaust system is no longer sealed up and letting more oxygen in the exhaust, causing a lean code, did you use gaskets when installing the header?

Fucking DOT

If you can't or won't post which code it actually is, all you're doing is throwing money when you go and buy a fix. And wasting our time asking stupid questions.
If you have a damn check engine light on, there's no point in guessing what the problem is when you can find out exactly what friggin area the problem is in.

lol calm down now its not worth it haha but I do agree, you need to figure what the code is
