i seen that it could be rear wheel but will it fit in the st?? the reason i asked is my moms boss has one in his mr2 that he wrecked and if he makes up his mind to sell the wracked mr2 (front dam) he will sell it to me for cheap (he knows nothing about that car i noticed it was the 3s-ge motor and he said something about it being the 3s-ge beams black top so just want to know if it will fit

Motors aren't front or rear-wheel.

The ST is set up to accept an A-block engine, not an S-block. That said, since the Celica can accommodate an S-block engine you could do it, but you'd have to get a transmission to mate, as well as the various bits and pieces (e.g. engine mounts) that differ between the ST18X and your AT180 in the engine bay.

It will fit, but it will be just like doing a 3sgte swap very similar it will not match up to your transmission though.

Blacktop Beams is an I4 out of a lexus I believe. Won't fit your car unless you have deep pockets. Yes its from a RWD car.

unless your talking about the grey top beams from a rav4 less powerfull then a redtop beams.

The blacktop is a 4 cylinder, just like all 3S's
This series is technically advanced, even more so than the 2JZ-GTE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2JZ-GTE). The first generation engine (Red Top) uses single cam VVT-i, the second (Black Top) employs dual VVT-i (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VVT-i) (on both the intake and exhaust) to provide 150 kW. It is available on the Toyota Altezza (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Altezza), Celica (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celica), Corona (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Corona) and MR2 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MR2) and is the only 3S-GE to arrive in a rear-wheel drive layout from factory.

To answer your question, yes it will fit. Not without modification though. You will either have to source a FWD S series transmission, or flip the shift linkage on the MR2 trans. Then to mount it in your engine bay, you will need a new body-mounted mount on the passenger side, possibly a driver side transmission mount too. Oh don't forget the wiring.

lol yes the blacktop is I4 I keep thinking I6 because of the way its mounted on the altezza looks similar to the 2jz. :)

Out of heavy curiosity.

Did you mistype and mean REV4 as in MR2? ( I believe the rev4 MR2's had redtops though?)

Or was it correct as the Toyota Rav4, mini SUV dohickey? I didn't think the beams was ever sold in anything on us shores. If so I'll have to scour my local junk yards to a more religious extent, I've passed over a few rav4's lol

The BEAMS engine came in Altezza RS200 (Lexus IS200 as well I assume) the MR2, Celica SSII and SSIII and the Rav4.

That means it was desinged to be in FWD, RWD, AWD and MR configurations.

It came in 3 variants, the earlier Redtop, the more powerful Blacktop and the RAV4 version with a black valvecover, called the Greytop to differentiate it from teh Altezza Blacktop.

Read up on Wikipedia about the 3SGE and it will give you a good base to start with to understand the engine.

It would be the exact same as dropping a 3SGTE into an AT chassis. You have to fabricate mounts, source a tranny and rewire the harness.

Yes, it will fit.

No, it won't be outrageous in costs.

Also, for the record, the BEAMS 3SGE didn't come in the MR2 in the US, if it is in his car, it was swapped in there later. It didn't leave the factory that way.

Just something to keep in mind.

There are a lot of hacked swaps out there.

HOLY hell... Everything in one post.

BEAMS ( Breakthrough Engine with Advanced Mechanism System)

Came as a Blacktop in the RS200 Altezza, that motor is oriented as front engine RWD, this is the most power of the BEAMS 3SGE motors, something like 210hp, Dual VVT-i

Came as Redtop Beams in the special versions of the MR2 (G Limited) and Celica (SS-III, I think). Only has VVT-i on the intake cam.

Came as a Greytop in the Rav4 in Japan. I've heard this one has the smallest cams and makes the least power. That's about all I know about this one.

ALL 3S* engines can use any S series transmission.

Um, what misinformation? You just restated everything else that was said already.

It would be badass, but a wiring nightmare! Better call up Tweak.

If you want to resell it, i'll give you $1000-$1500 depending on mileage.
