Hey guys as you probably all know the Celica gt4 st185's have a big problem with their syncros: they wear out! And crunch when you shift gears. Now Iíve just recently taken out my Trans and doing a whole rebuild of the engine. Iím thinking of sending my Trans to a Trans specialist to get my syncros replaced, because my syncros are worn out. One thing is, if he's just going to repair it by changing the syncros, after a month or two of hard driving won't I have the same problem again?.

Thatís why Iíve done a bit of research to see if there were any other alternatives. This is what Iíve come across. First of all I have a Celica gt4 1990 st185 Jap import (Iím from Melbourne Australia). To my knowledge they come with E150F gearbox, But the Celica gt4RC(rally ed, the one with water to air IC) comes with a trans code of E151F, Now supposably they come with TRIPLE CONE SYNCRO in second and DUAL CONE SYNCRO in third so you donít have the shifting crunch problem.

MY question is are the syncros for the E151F compatible with the E150F?
because thats what i want in my trans to slove this syncro problem

If it's the same as the S53 and S54 for the front drive they are. I've never looked at the two GT-4 transmissions apart so I couldn't tell you for sure but I'd have a strong feeling that they do.

PS: You could probably also use the synchros from the late model MR2 Turbos.

The RC [all homologation IIRC] will fit in fine.

They're the same [the synchros] as the 92/93 regular versions though, so either will work.
MR2 as well, as it's the same transmission.

alltracman. so your saying they will fit?(are compatible), but are you also saying the syncros arn't any different on a normal gt4 from the gt4RC? i'm confused?

They fit.
