Because if they never did that, every car would look like cars designed 10 years before them. Toyota has usually pushed the design envelope. In 1989 the 5th gen Celis were thought to look quite futuristic.

Bingo...

Look at other cars that were manufactured the first year of the MKiv supra for example, or take his example...

1989. What else looked like the 5th gens?

"What? Its rounded? JESUS CHRIST THATS NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE!!!"

Then all the other cars, well the imports, produced more rounded models as opposed to boxy guys (Civics, integras, preludes, accords, for example).

ok, well I suppose that works, but it still is ugly to me, cant they make it futuristic without such a jaged design?

because it is a hybrid *if it is that is...* it would become popular with those going for higher economy but then again for those with want of a more powerful mark 5 it would be less popular. if they want to make it something that might still be popular all around, they need to design it with a hydrogen fuel system. that way the engine can still be modified just like our conventional engines being the difference between a hydrogen and gas engine is just about nothing at all other then ignition timing.

Not the Supra. That's the Lexus LF-A. It's a V10, 500HP ride, most likely $100K+.
