If anyone can remember me posting question after question about a 1991 Celica GTS, well this is what it looks like. It's nearly ready for the track. Thanks once again to anyone who helped give us advice. I'll post photos more soon.

hmmm, the scoop isnt for the intake for sure... thought the hold it self actually looks to be really clean cut. so im guessing there must be a purpose.

Yes itís for dirt track racing and maybe a little ice racing towards the end of its life. The scoop is kinda tradition because our other racers had them as well. We don't have a wind tunnel so we don't know what it does but we think it forces the air in a little faster using that Venturi effect principal. Whatever! lol

I'll post the pics as soon as possible. The car is getting painted right now and getting some other work done to it so its out of my hands. We originally wanted the GT because it was lighter but the one I own was in rough shape and found this GTS which was in amazing shape so we started building....and it has a wing which looks badass. I'll have to post pics of what the car originally looked like. You'll crap yourself.

I would like to see how your bars are welded in around your drivers door. Besides that your celica looks just like mine.

Nice work!

About your scoop...

It transitions from the wide front part to the narrow rear part too quickly, so its likely that most of the extra air that you hope is going through is just going around it, which is a good thing since the venturi effect would be pulling air up through the hole and blowing dirt in your face :wedge: .

Some pictures of the car with the doors on and new wheels. I took these photos the day we dropped it off at the paint shop. Next week I'll have photos of the finished product.

From this angle, I would suggest that the narrowing of the hood scoop toward the rear would accelerate the air passing over the hole in the hood.

This would create a low pressure zone over the hole, sucking heated, lighter air from under the hood, thereby cooling the engine compartment.

This, in turn, would cool the dilithium crystal matrix flow through the flux capacitor, which would yield roughly a 22.98763 increase in efficiency though the warp coil, thereby reducing engine flatulence pressure at the nacel orifice by 0.0001 percent, or putting it more simply, by the thickness of just one hair on Uranus.

I think... ;)

No Doc no!!!

Wait. wait.. it flies?

Actually, I think you were onto it, the purpose is to have any flames be blown into the passenger compartment due to the acceleration of the scoop. This in turn presents a well cooked driver.

I don't know if this is the case on the hood scoop but in AMX racing up here in Montana they require a certain size hole in the hood for safety so they can stuff a fire extinguisher down the hole and put out flames without having to open the hood.

Yeah the hood scoop is not really a Nasa engineered piece of equipment. Itís just a thing that was on all of our past cars and at the same time it makes people talk. I'm the driver rep for the class and I promote ingenuity, so it was just kind of a test to see what other people may do.

Send me a link to that AMX class you speak of. Iím constantly comparing rules to improve our class.

So far we've done one race this season and we won it.

NOTE: One race in the class I race in is 100 laps usually with a field of 30+ cars.
