Very quick question. Going to swap my 5s for a 3s. How do i tell for sure what year car the 3sgte came out of. Any clues?

usually the pvc valve is different on the mr2 vs alltrac 3sgte. Alternator bracket is different on them as well. 1st gen 3s has a wta inter cooler. Bolt pattern on the exhaust manifold is different from early 2nd gens to later ones. I'm sure theres a list of differences, those are just some of the obvious ones.

Ahh should've been a bit more specific and said the differences between 90-93 3sgte's

Well if thats your question, I believe the 9 bolt exhaust manifold were the later ones which I think were from 92+. The Early 89-92 have a 7 bolt.

Assuming the engine was untouched (no mod, use correct year replacement parts)
90-91 has 7 stud exhaust manifold.
Some 92 have 7 stud exhaust manifold, some have 9 stud exhaust manifold.
All 93 has 9 stud exhaust manifold.
90-91 has non-clip type distributor cap and wires.
92-93 has clip type distributor cap and wires.
93 has throttle opener. (the vacuum actuator thingy on the lower left side of the throttle body, right below the throttle cable)

If I am not mistaken, you can find the VIN on the block and use that to verify the year on a CarFax report. I think you can do that? Correct me if I am wrong. My 2JZGE has the VIN stamped onto the side of the engine and you can actually see it. It matches the VIN on my title and everywhere else on my car, thus being the original engine from 1992.
