I know a lot of you guys have problems with your cup holders and I found a bit of an upgrade. I lost mine in my garage while my stereo was out. Anyway I was looking for replacements in the junkyard and found out the Corolla SR5 cupholders will work in the 5th gen Celica. Mounts up perfectly. The upgrade is these pull/push to open/close, rather than have that spring loaded crap. The location is still crap, but at least they'll stay closed. Only SR5s will work, other corollas don't appear to have come with them. By the way has anyone noticed 6th gens use the 5th door handles?

I actually found a working clip the other day at a junkyard, so my cupholder works now. :D

lol this is funny because it's basically the only thing i dont like about my celica :) either i'll relocate the lighter socket somewhere else (when something is plugged in, it's obstructed by cup holder) and use remote for deck, or buy aftermarket cup holders. heh

The little retaining clip broke on my cup holder, so when the stereo was out I took off the spring, I didn't use it anyway

I've posted somewhere in the past that Toyota has a repair/upgrade kit that offers a stronger latching mechanism than the OEM. I've installed it and it works fine, 1+ years later, although I don't use it much because of you know what...

my cupholders work ok, they just dont stay put, but I cant blame the cup holders for that

mine stay closed, its just that they move around because of how the interior is stripped. I couldnt even believe my eyes when I saw them
