Today I changed the dizzy cap and rotor and also cleaned the MAF and t-body with choke and carb cleaner (apparently a mistake)

Now, the car idles weird AND the TRAC off and CEL come on under 1500 RPM or so.

Did I seriously screw this thing up?

Hmm, I'm not real familiar with MAFs, but I'm pretty sure that was bad idea. But hey, maybe there's a way to correct it.

yes, touching the MAF is usually a bad idea, when you screw up the calibration, the sensor is fairly well screwed and will cause the vehicle to run funny. Without it at all, the car will barely run, but deffinately wont be moving anywhere lol Just a word of advice, if the MAF isn't causing any problems, dont touch it, if you want to clean the housing then remove the sensor first

yeah i cant see the carb cleaner hurting the throttle body, i did the same thing with the TB on my jeep and it ran great am considering doing it to my celi when the weather warms up a little, back down to the high 30s low 40s again

it wont hurt the TB, only the MAF sensor

Thats a bunch of shit if that screwed it up.

Looks like I may not be going to the dragon now.

u'll prob need a new MAF... but you should have used an electrical parts cleaner since it doesnt leave a filmy residue... try cleaning it with electrical cleaner but it may not work since the carb cleaner was on it... but hopefully it does!!!

^Wanna go with me to Niles tomorrow to get the one from that SC?

Apparently the 1UZFE MAF will work with slight modding. Going to run and get one tomorrow from the yard. I hope it works.

And yeah I may try the cleaner. I'll go to the store and see.

Damn it.

good luck getting it fixed. One of my teachers told us this story about how K&N filters can actually destroy an MAF sensor due to the oil they put on them. You gotta be careful with your air intake system. If you do clean the housing, make sure you wipe it dry

I read on Club Lexus that the V8 MAF "flows more air". I know that that is really meant for turbo apps but if I get it cheap....i dont care

Cleaning the mirror in those MAF´s is a bad idea. :-(

And I sprayed it down with brake cleaner and choke cleaner, inside and out, really heavily.

Breakclearner? then its dead for sure..
I´am pretty sure that the electronic on those lexus´s is the same as on the mkIII supra turbo, and thats easyer to find.. But check the part number on the box..

Well...the SC400 one is considered an upgrade for the MKIII Supra and for the SC. It works for the 7M and various JZ engines but I don't think the MAF is the same for the 7M when used on a 2JZ

I can't afford a new one. The el cheapo one from AutoZone is over $400 and a Denso one from Toyota is over $600.

Junk yard it is

The eletronic on the LS400 MAF is the same as on the supra.. They have the same part number. Only the house on the ls400 is bigger. If you can use the eletronic from a ls400, then you can also use the one from the supra.... And alot of supra people have them, I have a couple :-D

ouch, well its a lesson well learned right? Nothing wrong with junk yard parts, they are way cheaper and work most of the time

^Bastard.

Yeah I got it. The sensor itself is held in by three screws and are the SAME on the sc300 AND 400, but the aluminum housing itself is a little bigger for the one from a 1UZFE than on a 2JZGE. People use the 400 MAF housing if they're going NA-T, but since I'm not I just swapped sensors and will keep the UZ MAF handy in case I ever do.

Oh BTW I spent $65 and got the MAF, a LEXUS script chrome emblem, circle L emblem, all the chunky relays in the underhood fuse boxes that I could carry, and the SC400 itself had a decent shape K&N drop in filter inside.

(The ABS and TRAC relays/fuses sell for upwards of $50 each on ClubLexus)

So I will actually end up making my money back and then some on all those relays. The yard guys said the engine is good, thus I'm sure most of that shit works still.

thats great that you got it fixed, did you take the housing too? I tend to love widening my intake system, I want the motor to breath as much as it possibly can. Im a firm believer in wide open intakes and well tuned exhausts

VikingJZ

I took the 400 housing as well but did not install it. I simply swapped sensors. Perhaps later I will try it.
